2nd Service Cost
So I have just had my second service done on my 2014 M4 done which I picked up as an approved used car from a BMW and apart from the regular things they have had to changed the plugs. Which from reading around is normal for a M4.
As I don't have a service pack I have to pay for servicing myself and the total has come out at ~£1200. I was originally quoted at £500-600 but there computers have been down and I haven't even received an itemised receipt yet. Does this even sound roughly correct? I know other people who have got an oil change done have been charged around the £250 mark I can't for the life of me understand how it costs £1000 to change the bloody plugs. |

I'm guessing you didn't have your spark plugs changed though? Mines only done 16,000 miles! Last edited by Doso; 10-25-2016 at 10:53 AM.. |

No spark plugs on mine I don't think. I did ask them if it needed it, they scanned and key and said it doesn't. Will check over receipt tomorrow and let you know |

That's an utter piss take, I'd have refused to pay it, no M car I've ever owned has cost £1200 to service.
You've only done 16000 miles? It should have been 250-300 quid not £1200!

My previous M4 had a service at 18000 which cost £210. I supplied the oil as Opie oils provide a good discount.
Also noticed that whilst the V8 M3 needed a brake fluid change after 2 years this is now pushed forward a year, meaning depending on mileage the second service will be more expensive, since spark plugs are also likely to need changing.

BMW dealers aren't allowed to offer Ms that haven't had the running in service at an appropriate time so you should be fine in that regard.
£1200 for a service at 16000 sounds very steep to me, I'd be interested in their justification for all the work. I'd also be interested to see the removed spark plugs against the new ones. |

I'm guessing the £1200 service is because of additional work needed, and if so, I would go back and say unacceptable on an AUC. |

Am I right in surmising that the spark plugs shouldn't really be changed until around the 3rd service after RIS?
You have the RIS, 1st service after that should just be an oil and filter say - £250. 2nd I'd imagine may be slightly more expensive around £400 - £500. I know it's variable but I've never had a car have plugs changed before 40k.
