Coding the LIM function (Speed Limiter) to our cars
Hello,
I just FDL coded the LIM function (Limit) to my car and I love it. It's similar to what Cruise Control is but with a twist. With Cruise Control you set a specific speed and it will hold it until you brake or cancelling it. With LIM, you set a Maximum you don't want to go beyond and you have free range of speeds below that. Once you reach the max set speed, the LIM function will not let you go passed it. If you want to go faster than the set speed, you really need to press the accelerator almost to the floor to speed up passed the LIM set speed. Anyway, I find the LIM function very useful in some situations. It works great in slow urban areas and where you know there are cops watching. Below are the codes to change to enable LIM. KOMBI 3003 SLD_ENABLE aktiv (This one was already set at aktiv in my car) ICM 3000 C_SLD_Funktion aktiv ICM 3000 C_Umschaltung_ACC_DCC zugelassen Now, once you FDL coded KOMBI and ICM, for US cars, you just need to press the SET button on your steering wheel . The system will register this as the set speed. There will be a green LIM light on the instrument cluster and if you have the HUD, you will see a green "Limit xxx" that tells you your limit set speed. I guess if you don't have the HUD, this info info might be located in the extended instrument cluster. You can adjust the set speed with the rocker control just below the SET button as you would normally with Cruise Control. This doesn't disable Cruise Control, it's just a different system. To have LIM ready to work, the cruise control cannot be ON at the same time. Enjoy. Last edited by stealth70mde; 06-09-2016 at 07:37 PM.. Reason: Fixed one of the parameters |

Once my power supply comes in I plan on coding this in. It will prove very useful in areas where I know I need to behave.
I assume to cancel the LIM setting you just push the SET button again, yeah?

Nice! Thanks for clearing that up. This seems like a very useful feature (moreso than CC I think).

Just be aware that LIM will turn on traction control. I found this out the hard way after exiting the freeway. I needed to get up to speed quick to merge and the traction control kicked in and scared the crap out of me. I now press the traction control button when I get off the freeway.

Re-read my post. That's exactly what I said...
Lim just helps to keep you under the limit you set. You still hold all control with your foot. If you want to go past the limit you set just mash the gas. These are street cars that travel on highways/freeways/tollways that have police patrolling looking for speeders. Most of us aren't trying to get tickets. This is just another tool to help with that. You don't have to want it or like it, but that doesn't take away from the car nor the driver.

Just coded this last night. I like it. Keeps you honest in areas where you know the cops are watching like hawks.
Btw, small correction to your codes: KOMBI 3003 SLD_ENABLE aktiv (This one was already set at aktiv in my car) ICM 3000 C_SLD_Funktion aktiv ICM 3000 C_Umschaltung_ACC_DCC zugelassen

Hi guys,
Here's a little update on the LIM and cruise control interaction. Today was the first time where I did 3 hours of highway driving so I could test stuff better. Activating LIM changes how the cruise control works... The SET button is now solely for LIM. If you want to use the Cruise control now, only the CC ON/OFF/Cancel and the RES buttons control the functions. To set your speed for CC you turn ON the CC like usual but you set your speed via the RES button now. Once set, you can cancel the CC using the ON/OFF button and resume with the RES as usual. Only setting the initial CC speed has changed. Cheers. |

If so, they can also be used to "set" the desired speed.

Yes, absolutely. The rocker switch behaves the same. Good point!

Just things I would like to point out that affected my f10 (not saying it will happen to f80/f30) Specific to my f10
Overall I'm sure what i mentioned above can be solved with coding. This is a solid add to anyone who doesn't wanna keep taking their eyes off the road to check their speed. Thanks OP! ![]() |
