![]() ![]() Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I was doing some work on my car and thought it would be a good time to update my tunes on the transmission and engine. I flashed the transmission to the BM3 CS tune without reading the instructions well (I have a 2015 M3 and the CS tune is for 2018+), and the next day drove for a few minutes and BOOM, transmission malfunction...whatever I’ll flash it when I stop...go to flash...failure...tried it again and failure...at this point I should’ve stopped and gotten a tender because my daily commute is short. Then the car started throwing all sorts of faults...transmission, EDC, pedestrian, etc. Now it looks like I basically killed my $1200 battery and when I have it towed to BMW they will tell me I need a new DME and ECU...I hate myself so much right now. I know I’m an idiot for not reading the instructions carefully...I just had to vent to some people who might’ve made the same mistake or can sympathize. I also know I’ll get a lot of people who will flame me for it...but Please learn from my experiences. I’ve flashed many times before and didn’t think much of it...but put a tender on your car while you flash and read the small print...it’ll save you a lot of headache. ![]() EDIT: spelling errors |

We've all had projects or modifications go in this manner at some point or another. I'm sure no permanent damage is done and it will get sorted out. Just chock it up to a learning experience, my wife would always say to me "you're not a professional mechanic don't beat yourself up"

Try fully charging your battery with a CTEK Lithium charger and re-flash. Definitely don't take it to the dealer and don't panic. You'll be fine.

Thanks guys! You guys are awesome...yeah it was definitely a learning experience. Serge from PTF got me hooked up for a remote session tomorrow. I'm not going to lie, the guys there are second to none, been talking to me nonstop through email since I contacted them and they usually get back to me in 30 minutes. Best customer service experience I've ever had!

Haha, I linked up with Serge...the battery completely died...had it towed and BMW recovered the battery (YAY!) but said that my CPU overheated and fried...they linked the CPU/DME to Carbahn and they said it was not salvageable and then they linked up with BMW Germany and they said the same thing. They are saying that the transmission may also need to be replaced. I'm confused as to what to believe. I spoke with Serge and he said that he believes it can be fixed, but BMW keeps telling me it can't be and since the DME is out, if I asked to have it put back in and it's not salvageable, I would have to pay another $500 to have the shit taken back apart to replace the DME...so torn and confused...Need someone who has been in this position to chime in because the DME is 3800 and the labor for taking the DME back out of $500...
Both parties have been REALLY helpful. Kenneth at BMW Southpoint has been super willing to help, I just don't know if they are just looking at the codes or what...and Serge is being awesome too but he hasn't seen the car so I don't know if he actually knows if it's doable or not...I think I may have just gone too hard to try to fix it and I think I may have forked it up even more...sigh |
