2014 M4 vs 435xi
I'm really confused to what car to get next as my lease ends in June '15. I want to fall into the 4 series family specifically M4 or 435xi. Of course, there is a huge difference in performance between the two. Not sure if that is the only reason I'll be paying almost $300-400/month extra? That would make M4 to take up 15% of my monthly net. My total expenses are 2.5k/mo.
Not sure if it'll be smart to lease an M4 especially with the NJ weather. Any advice? |

Owning an M4 as a DD year round isn't going to be as easy as owning a 435xi. For instance, if you plan to drive in the snow, you will NEED winter tires for the M4. The stock PSS will not cut it at all.
Question is, are you willing to sacrifice the convenience for the performance? |

You're the only person who knows how stable your situation is, etc Personally, I think you should do it (and go european delivery and performance center delivery while you are at it) but run the numbers on lease vs. buy before you do |

No comparison.
Those $300-$400 extra are worth every penny. Much better performance, handling, looks, tuning capabilities, DCT, etc. if you're comfortable paying the extra price don't even think about it, you won't regret it.

If the M4 will be much more money than the 435xi, then the difference in money is not worth it, IMO. I'm getting the feeling the M4 would strain your budget. If that is the case, I would get the 435xi no doubt. It's an excellent car, incredibly fast and very fun to drive. And has killer looks! The M4 looks like a 435i with bigger wheels and some subtle body work. Not much of a spread between the 2, esthetically and very subjectively speaking. The M3 on the other hand looks a lot better than the 335i due to the wider track, front/rear fascia, fender flares and the 4 series headlights and grill. Anyway, the hassle of owning a RWD car in the NJ winters, snow tires, the added insurance, the $300-$400 extra monthly payment and the fact that the 435i is almost just as enjoyable make it a tough sell if I were in your shoes. The M4 only makes sense if your budget can comfortably accommodate it. It's an F-YOU car. Not a "reasonable" car or a prudent financial decision that you can make much financial sense of, or justify to your budget spreadsheets. Have you test driven them both, back to back? I would start there. Last edited by Falafel Combo; 02-17-2015 at 07:43 AM.. |

You live in Miami. With 40-50 inches of snow this season, living in the northeast we are sometimes bothered by ... the elements ... and need to plan accordingly.

I know some here are offended that their precious M3/M4 would be cross shopped with (GASP) a series car, but of course they are. It would be foolish not to. The M3/M4 are obviously more performance oriented cars, but lets not pretend that they are the answer to every BMW car buying question. Nor do they suit the needs of all customers. Some are just as happy (and even better served) with a 335i/435i. The 335i/435i are excellent BMW's. Add xDrive to a well equipped 435i in the northeast, and the M4 begins to rapidly lose it's appeal. |

I just saw a car spin out on the highway this morning and hit the barrier. I used to think AWD wasn't necessary, cause in this weather nobody is having fun, AWD or not. I change my mind. My ride was on rails and I can still have fun without fearing for my life.
Keep in mind this is my DD and I also swap in winter tire setup. Also I am sure there is a compromise for when we have good weather in the NE since then RWD may be more fun. But on a DD, I don't think I would give up the versatility of xdrive. |

I don't think I would have an M4 in the northeast if it were my only car. I have an xterra for winter duties.
edit: I take that back... I would have winter tires and suck it up. |

Personally I would test drive both and then consider this:
The m4 will be more exciting The 435 will be better for any weather The 435 should be more comfortable The 435 will be cheaper How long will you be keeping the car? Is it a purchase or a lease? I'd purchase an m4 but I'd lease a 435 for example. As someone stated before if you need to make a smart decision the 435 wins hands down, but an M4 is not a logical decision. You buy it caus you love it, caus it's the best at what it does. That doesn't mean it's the best for you. Goodluck!

I can't get past the knobs, levers and the gear shifter... It's bad. Why must Lexus still show that it's related to Toyota. This is a quality they've had a hard time getting away from. Doesn't mean it's not a good car, it's just a quirk I have that really gets to me. It's probably what detracts a lot of buyers as well.
I do like the car, and I was actually thinking about getting one this time last year because I was going to settle. I'm glad I didn't.
