Gran Turismo the movie

I get to see the movie tonight and it was awesome! The story was awesome. The racing parts are...well...crap and so truncated and unrealistic but it's "made for the movies". There were parts when the crowd cheered a few times. It is a good second place behind Ford v. Ferrari. Your experience may vary. Two snaps up.

I've recently re-watched this movie. It's great to hear that you had an awesome time watching "Gran Turismo"!

I found Ford v Ferrari depressing!
Instead of fighting to win, they spent almost all their time and energy fighting within Ford. Ford was interested in 'winning' to check the box, but couldn't have cared less about racing.
Ford's great achievement was having one or two people who were so hellbent on building a good racecar that they managed to fight every corporate bastard standing in their way and all the internal pissing contests and succeed. It had nothing to do with racing.
It's a realistic movie, indeed there was and is zero culture of excellence in Ford to this day. It was more about a rich person having their ego hurt and then decided they would beat Ferrari, but did not want to put the time or effort into actually doing that.
That scene where the Ferrari CEO spends the night at the track while the Ford CEO goes to a fancy dinner offsite is very telling. [Note: I am not a Ferrari fan]

You could tell the same story but differently:
Rich man eats 8000 calories in pizza a day while watching Netflix. Randomly goes to the beach and is embarrassed that the local surfer guy is popular with girls.
This man then goes home, continues eating 8000 calories a day while sitting on the couch, but has plastic surgery and liposuction. At the end of the movie, goes to the beach and gets the girl the surfer was hanging out with.
Zero effort, zero growth, zero sacrifice, zero 'coming to Jesus' moments. Just a willy measuring contest.
