Drag Wheels

Hey everyone,

What wheels do you guys recommend for drag racing (rear wheels)?

Thanks!

Apex EC-7 is a good choice, you can get 18's x 10" or 11" wide.

Lot's of 'custom' wheels out there to go wider than that. I haven't seen any 17s fit over the rears yet though.

Thanks for the info, do you mount them before getting to the drag strip or onsite?

I also concur: Apex EC-7. Just got a pair for my rear drag set-up. 18" x 11" w/44 offset. Perfect for 305 tires. I run Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S 305/35R18, although I may try 305/40R18 next time.

The Mickeys are very grippy. Tempted to drive them daily.

My fronts are still my DD 19".

I mount my M/T ET Streets at home and drive them to and from the strip. They are great on the street. Even left them on for a week and drove in the rain back and forth to work. They weren't bad at all.

I'm tempted to leave them on full time. So much grip.

Nope. Not on just the rears. No balancing either. Unnecessary, and you don't want weights moving or flying off. Just mount them on rear wheels and drive to the strip and back.

Hi, I followed your advice and got the same setup for the strip. I wanted to ask if you tried daily driving it for a longer period of time? I guess they won’t last long as the tires are really soft compound. What would you get for the front if keeping these at the back as DD?

I tried fitting 17" welds on my car with no luck ... and if any wheel is gonna fit its a weld ... my 18s in the rear are literally millimeters away from the barrel hitting the caliper ... so sadly i think the stock 18" wheel is perfect if you can get a set

I run Bridgestone RE71Rs up front. Most recently 255/40R-18. Have previously run 275/35R-18 RE71Rs as well. Both are good.

9secDD I'm assuming that's your ET... what are you trapping?

I'm about to go approx 600WHP and I want something I can throw on and just drive everywhere but have grip when I want to go from a roll or dig. I have a F80 zcp ('18). Any recommendations? I'm thinking R888R in the rear (sound isn't an issue for me) but my setup is the 763M wheels (19" front, 20" rear)

Thanks.

your best bet is to have someone turn down 1st and 2nd if you want traction on a street tire

Are you running stock Suspension or lowering springs/coilovers?

Also anyone one here running 18x10/11 weld wheels? planning on doing so

I run VS5RS (or however they name it from apex) 18s w the same mickeys someone else stated. On full stock suspension i’m going to try to fit 325-35-18s instead of 305 though.
