| This It also varies state to state. The 3 failures of the same component is pretty standard but even it fails multiple times (ie outside of 30 days of each other, like 3 times in a year). Or if multiple failures of differing major components. Again, look at what your state has to say. Even if the engine blew @ 400 miles (which would be more than the DCT), it's not a Lemon Law thing. There is no price associated with invoking the Lemon Law (as far as I know). |

Sorry to hear of your bad fortune. Sounds like you handled the interactions very politely despite poor treatment from assist. Kudos for your maturity!
I have a 2011 E90 M3 w/DCT. Never had any problems with the DCT. However after my euro delivery, when the car arrived stateside, at the port they attempted to update the nav maps to north America and somehow managed to destroy the whole nav system. It took my dealer about a week to fix it. I hated that right of the gate to have my cool new toy taken away for some woefully inferior loaner, so I feel your pain and if it affects you like me, you're probably worried it'll be a long term hassle. In my case they identified the problem, fixed it and is been perfect ever since. When it happened I posted on Bimmerfest.com about it and the next day someone from BMWNA called me and said they'd read my post and wanted to assure me it would be well handled. I was a little creeped out by that but it certainly showed a level of attention to detail that impressed me. The lady said BMW knows M car buyers are passionate, particular owners, so they handle them accordingly. My DCT has been flawless on street and track; it's a fantastic transmission. Anyway, best of luck to you, but I don't expect you need luck. This will be expertly repaired and will be just a little bobble - a footnote to your ownership story, like it is to mine. In my e92 owners manual there is a chapter on bypassing the DCT if it is stuck in gear; one should gently pry open the dct shifter cover/boot, and under there is a small switch that puts the DCT into neutral. Has anyone read this point in their owner manual for the M4 that can confirm this is the same still?

Wow..I am sorry to hear this. I can't imagine this happening on a new M with a few hundred miles on it. I would be so upset. I hope everything works out for you and your car!

Don't worry. Just clear bra your manual transmission and the DCT problem will not happen to you.

My experience is that most manufacturer provided roadside assistance is junk. Had a flat tire in my McLaren, live in Houston and the nearest dealer is in Dallas. Just needed a 2 mile flatbed ride back to my house where I could remove the tire and get it fixed. McLaren roadside assistance refused to provide a tow to my house claiming they could only tow to the nearest dealer. So I could get a free 240 mile tow to the dealer but they wouldn't tow 2 miles to my house. Called AAA and they have a flatbed out in 10 minutes.

Nothing will sour the excitement and ownership of a new toy than this. I had issues right out of the gate with a 5 series many years ago and cursed like a sailor at BMW and swore I'd never buy one again. I was stuck in a rural road in the middle of nowhere in FL with a wife and a 3 yr old kid, man I was pissed!!
But then I reconsidered and bought 3 more BMW's after that including 2 more M cars and never had a problem ever since. I hope that's how it goes for you.... |
