Fuel starve DESPITE starting full?

So as I've gotten faster, I've started getting fuel starve at my local track (NJMP Lightning, coming out of the bowl).

Very weird thing is on my last session, I started with basically a full tank, got down to between 1/2 and 2/3 full, and it STILL did it. With my setup I'm now peaking at ~1.4G through there. I'm starting to worry that this may be unmasking some other fueling issue, but it only does it out of this one high-G corner, and I have absolutely zero symptoms of the engine being unhappy in any other scenario, track or street. No CEL. Not tuned, running pump 93. What's also bugging me is I feel I've been through that section at a similar pace, with a similar amount of fuel, and it didn't do it.

Someone tell me not to worry, and just install the BW kit when it comes out...

Starting from full doesn't guarantee anything, as within >25 min of running you'll be at half a tank and be in a position to fuel starve again.

It's possible you fuel starved above half a tank, or maybe something else is going on somewhere in your car. Remember the mid point thing is purely anecdotal and it's based on tracks like VIR and WGI, so at NJMP Lightning you may be creating worse conditions.

The BW kit is nice and gives you some leeway for these moments

PS: right hand turn?

No help on the fuel but Sounds like you should add the bimmerworld oil sensor if you haven't. Allows you to add an extra 750ml of oil while keeping the sensor happy and prevents oil starvation on track.

Same thing happened to me on Friday at Lightning. This fuel starvation is really not cool. Another guy in a yellow M3 had the same exact issue too. Mine didn't go into full limp mode this time, but I could feel the car missing a beat coming out of the bowl.

WE NEED A SOLUTION

Edit: Both of us were on full tanks too. I've been topping off after every session

Thanks, though I have a CS which already has a beefier oiling system (digging up the original BMW press release indicates good for 1.4g) and normal fill is 0.5 L greater at 7.0 L (or is it quarts, whatever)

Oops missed the cs part. The spacer just allows non cs to run more oil just like the cs. cheers

if it's happening on a high G right hander, then very likley fuel starvation. My home track has a particular long sweeping right hander, and i would get hiccups there at slightly below 3/4 tank! Eagerly awaiting BW's partial solution

and it really doesn't happen to everyone. it depends on pace and grip.

The regular Ms have 6.5L and are rated for 1.3g
The CS and GTS have 7L and are rated for 1.4g
The Bimmerworld extra oil solution takes you to 7.35L, which presumably would equal 1.46g

In both of our M4 GTSs we are running the BW oil kit despite being GTSs

It is not a new issue, but it takes years for people to track a generation of m3s or m4s seriously so this has only been popping up in the last few years.

For the vast majority of people it is a non issue. These cars are extremely track ready when their price is taken into account.

As an update, still waiting on some wiring connectors to arrive to wrap up the BimmerWorld fuel starve kits, I was really hoping they would be here by now but such is how this seems to go at times with backordered components.

As for the fix in all instances, it can be difficult in certain scenarios. The Bowl at NJMP is one of those corners that can be tough due to how long, fast, and sweeping it is. Another example is turn 16-18 at COTA. The soon to be released fix should still help in these difficult situations, but long term we will be working on the more involved (dropping the tank) solution.

As an FYI, with the current solution, James just had the GTMore running down to an 1/8 tank of fuel on slicks with the power turned up and zero hesitation.

Yo Matt! Great to meet you that day.

I don't know if it was fuel starvation as my car threw P0300 (P0305, P0306) engine misfire for cylinder 5 and 6. It MAY be since it happened at the same spot, twice, which is that hard left hand turn before the bulb. But I definitely had a good amount of gas when it happened.

We have seen similar issues on tracked M2s with around 30k miles and it turned out to be a failing HPFP.
