I had a Cayenne GTS and that vehicle was amazing and bulletproof. Never spent a dime except for normal maintenance and tires in 109K miles. Super quick, agile, and reliable.

Thanks everyone for the feedback and suggestions.
Life has been busy, so I haven't had a chance to drive anything yet...but hopefully soon!

There's nothing really bigger about any of those. They still only seat 5 and your trunk is probably bigger than the tiny space behind their back seat. Why bother?
If you want bigger, go BIGGER. The one SUV (and I've had several) that I kind of regret selling was my 2010 Toyota Sequoia Platinum. Holy smokes that thing was great and full of every bell and whistle too. Amazing vehicle.

OP, I know you said you don't think you could do a wagon, but the E63 Wagon is IMO the closest thing to perfect if need 4 doors and the room. The car is bad ass. Fast, handles, brakes, and if you can get over that it's a wagon. This wagon will smoke most SUV's if speed is your thing.
The X3M is very cool too. Drove it at Monticello during an M event there. A guy in my office just got one and loves it. Cost a lot less than the wagon too. The thing with the Porsches is by time you put everything you want on the thing it's a very expensive car. I'd drive the wagon, see if you like it. Assuming you can find one. |

Just tossing out another, the Maserati Levante. Don't know much about it, but perhaps it's also worth a look.
I've had a Cayenne Turbo, ML550, two Cayenne GTS's, and now own a Jeep SRT. I've test driven many others in this category including an X5M. The Cayenne's (in my opinion) are the best sport car SUV's out there. The X5M was a rocket ship, but IMO didn't handle or have the feel like the Cayenne's. Audi's were underpowered and felt/drove very heavy. The Jeep was a bang-for-buck purchase. New out the door it was $68k, loaded. It's not the fastest of the bunch (though statistically it's straight line faster than the GTS), nor does it handle as well, but it does check a ton of boxes and we've had 0 issues with it over 3 years and 25k miles (just routine maintenance, which is 1/2 the price of Porsche maintenance). If you go down to 2016, I think you could pick up a used GTS with decent miles for around $65/68k (maybe even CPO'd which I think is a must). Keep in mind depending on where you live (I'm in Colorado), you may need to purchase another set of winter wheels/tires. Even in AWD many of these SUV's are on summer tires, and you need to swap out. GL, if you take your time this could be fun. You'll get to sample a ton of great SUV's! Last edited by F80SRT; 10-17-2018 at 12:37 PM.. |

Get a CPO F85, a very good valve, soft closing doors (good for kids), and tired old people like me , fine leather (compared to an F80), rear tire meat, has no problem going sideways; you can feel the diff working. Very comfy overall (F80 seats might have a bit better neck/head support. Just took a 2300 road trip in one. Don't know if they all come with full leather - just make sure you have that box ticked. B&O is a plus. It also is still an ///M. With a proper winding out you will smoke most. Last edited by clutchdj; 10-17-2018 at 09:04 PM.. |

I've driven one and I have a friend that owns one. Awesome vehicle!! Obviously not the same ride as my wife's Masi GT but actually a better driver than her old Ghibli Q4. Before she went with a GT I was actually trying to get her to go with the Levante when her lease was up on the Ghibli.

Range Rover V8 supercharged / autobiography, 958 Cayenne Turbo, and X5M are great values currently and extended warranties can be had for $1k or less per year. I recently sold my wife's fully loaded 958 Cayenne Turbo and regret it. However, the wifey wants something smaller so we're getting a used Macan Turbo. Drive a GTS and Turbo Macan; the difference in power and interior trim is night and day in favor of the Turbo. I also drove the Levante S, new Discovery, and new SQ5. The Levante S drove pretty well. The Discovery drives like a pontoon boat. The SQ5 looks great, but the drive will bore you to death.

Had a chance to drive a Macan GTS this week, and overall was pretty pleasantly surprised. It was quick, and fun to drive. Fit and finish was above my M3...typical Porsche.
I do wish it was a bit faster, so I guess I will need to find a Turbo to try.

Have been looking at Audi SQ7, Porsche Cayenne, X5 M50D. No matter how you look at it, a bigger SUV will never be a nimble sports car like an M3 or M2C. If you want more space and want something bigger, get some decent engined SUV and use it what it's designed for (comfortable cruising) and get some fun car to get your kicks. You will regret the move from M3 to SUV and will overpay for the kicks you'll get regarding to power and speed and handling unless in a straight line. My 2cts |

That's the most disappointing thing about the Macan. Even the base caymans are fast now. It almost seemed like the macan engine variants were an afterthought. For the price points and models available the engine power of each version lag behind every other luxury Sport SUV manufacturer. But man it can be fun to drive. If the GTS did 0-60 in 4.0 seconds and handled the way it does now, my F80 would likely be gone with the wind. I know 0-60 doesn't mean shit, but for day to day traffic fun, it's nice to have.

Following-up on this. My M3 lease ended this week, and I picked up a CPO Macan Turbo as a replacement.
It's not quite as fast as the M3, and is an obvious downgrade in the handling department...but it's a pretty fun daily driver. I've got a Cobb stage 1 and a few other things on the way to help narrow the power gap. Others are claiming sub 4s 0-60 with similar additions, so it will be interesting to see what happens.
