What a rookie error. Why do so many people here think they can drive with DSC Off on public roads.

I was wondering if the owner was a member here lol. Thanks for coming forward.
Can't say it enough, its good nobody was hurt. Amazing the little damage the car suffered. Watching the video again in slow motion just adds to how tough this car is. I took a Car control clinic course too and appreciate the training you get. Certainly the training Trimm got helped but also still shows we aren't invincible. Lots of respect to you my friend. Lets see who has the balls this man has to come forward unlike thousands of others that don't.

That word fits perfectly.
It's not wrong to learn from this, but anyone who thinks shaming an other to make them learn is in my books at least a bully. Also, shame always brings only negative reactions, and the need to hide.

Major connection issues to this site (and thread right now) most likely due to the viral nature, i'm sure... The forums must be getting a ton of hits atm. |

My final takeaway from this thread is that next time I am leaving a car meet with plenty of onlookers, I shall proceed gingerly up to road speed, comfortable in the knowledge that I can easily and at any time light up my tires, lose control of my car, and end up a goat on YouTube.

This is a lesson many learned in the 1M which will can turn even quicker. Many equate driving high horsepower cars and their experience with them and feel too confident with the new turbo M cars that hit full torque at under 2K RPM whereas many of the high HP cars of the past hit it anywhere between 4-6K. All this torque immediately available couple with the M full-lock diff will make both rears spin and you see what happens. When I picked up the 1M, my first stop was to ///M in Garching where I spoke at length with the people there. I told them I was going to the ring next and they warned me....don't take TC off until you learn the car. They told me exactly what I am saying here, you can't just base it on HP, it's how quickly the full torque is available with a 100% lock rear diff. I ended up missing the Ring but when I got home and autocrossed I found out what they meant and probably saved me from being in a video on the wall at the ring with my new 1M.
I know the poster feels bad and he was just doing for the crowd and I'm glad he acknowledges lack of judgment. He could've hurt someone on the other side of the road. Also, Cars and Coffee Irvine was just shut down because of this sort of thing even after they asked people not to power out at 8 am on public roads. So I hope people will understand that these cars are a little different and learn the car. Tire pressure had nothing to do with this, it was full torque spinning both rear wheels, that simple. Temp might have made a small difference but that's the real deal. Stay safe guys and save your cars and coffee. We lost one of the best in the world due to this stuff. Best wishes. |

Not sure why thread should be closed. He wanted everyone's attention at the meet by flooring it in front of everyone. Now he got it. At least he's standing tall and taking it like a man. I know I couldn't do that. But I wouldn't have put myself in that situation in the first place.

Kudos to the member coming out in public. If it were me, I would be so embarrassed with my tail between my legs and hide in a cave for while lol

The only time I have EVER turned traction control off in my 5.0 is if I'm at a stop on a snowy road like at a red light and need to get the car moving again since the traction control will just brake the spinning wheel preventing me from being able to get going at all. Other than that, on all the time. I grew up with RWD cars that had no such thing as traction control or even ABS, so I know what even a low powered RWD car can do. No need to turn off those driver nannies on public roads. Even with traction control on, I've yet to fully juice the car from anything less than a 55-60 mph roll because 420 hp/390 tq is no joke at any speed. Glad you're ok, and I'd be curious to know just how damaged the car is (it most certainly is, at the very very very least you need two wheels (they WILL develop bulges over the next week)/tires/bumper repair, but I'd imagine the damage is considerably more severe, no matter how straight the car may drive right now. Hopefully you learn from this from both a safety and monetary perspective, because it's not going to be a cheap lesson. Quote:

He must be a comedian because there is no way he went to driving school and not be able to correct that. The pavement was dry and there was plenty room to correct it.

That "explanation" the driver typed up is a complete waste of everyone's time. He tried to show off, and failed.
