Lups- my condolences. We lost my girl Moo here last year to cancer [IMG][/IMG]
We recently got this tiny little gal Lilith, and she rules. All my dogs are rescued- I hope everyone considers rescuing an animal before paying a breeder for one. So many amazing and loving animals ready to be your best friend!

I agree that rescues are often great dogs, I've trained many, many of them but: I have kids. I wouldn't take a dog into our lives who's history I don't know first hand. It is too risky. Because dogs are too easy to get, we end up with shelters full of them. The sad thing is this makes it easy for people to dump their responsibilities since "well, at least they won't kill it". I'll get the haters on me with this one, but I truly believe we need to stop maintaining the current horrible state, and find solutions. If its mandatory castrations, fine. Each of us can do our share, I give a stern talk to each person considering getting any dog. 80% of us are not cut out to own one and then it's just pure luck things don't go badly. I have trained just about all the different sort of problem dogs and the only problem I've ever found has been the owner. After 150 dogs I'd say I've found the source of problems. I have nothing but respect towards people who take rescues, but we really need to concentrate in the bigger picture too.

I couldn't agree more with rescuing dogs, I rescued 2 dogs in the span of 1 year and both were in bad shape (I knew that before I rescued them) and passed away, I have all my dogs either neutered or spayed, I get weird comments like, "it's inhumane" or "what if someone did that to you" all the time from people that buy dogs just to keep them locked up in a cage 24/7 and then wonder why their dogs are not standing still while they snap their picture to post on instagram ...

Shelters (at least here) neuter/ spay dogs at the age of 8 weeks and that is inhumane. Their hormones are needed for development later. People buy dogs for looks and because of a movie (101 Dalmatians anyone?) and act surprised when the cute puppy grows up as an angry shithead, naturally their actions didn't contribute I any way. Answers are easy. Never buy a puppy from a factory. Feeling sorry for an individual will keep the industry running. Never buy a dog if you don't see the parents. Never buy a dog to a kid, or look at puppy pics, look at the pics of the full grown beasts. Never buy a dog of any breed that has been bred to a point where it could not survive a natural birth. Never buy a dog if you think getting an exhaust system is expensive. Know your weaknesses. Mine is that I'd kill someone without a dog in my life.

I just have to say, I've had dogs all my life until I moved out on my own (I care for them too much to get one and never be home). That being said, these pics are breaking my heart. I think it's time... Great thread!

So, Gs or Labrador? Those seem to be the two M approved breeds!

Now, picture this: 5F and you voluntarily go sleep in a forest with your dog just because that damn nut mut wants? Damn dog, I had a warm summer house a few hundred meters away and there, on a huge rock we slept so many nights. I think you got the breed right with the bear. That dog of yours was one. Any pics of that? It must have been a glorious dog to look at.

But of course (sorry for the terrible quality)! The first is when he was a pup (obviously) then the after lol.. Still difficult to look at sometimes. He had such a personality, even dealing with me running him 2-5 miles a day before he should have been. I would have done anything for that dog. Which reminds me, he actually lived through getting parvo, having his entire belly opened up only to find it days later. Yes that bill was gladly paid, he lived another 3 years or so. Tough one he was. My father is about 6ft 5inches maybe 270lbs, and he was taller than my dad on his hind legs. Sometimes if one of us fell asleep on the couch, you'd hear a big "thump, thump" at night... which was basically him pushing out of "his spot" on the couch lol.

I love these stories. These furry devils are such a huge part of us and their personalities truly mold us to what we become. The size of yours, I bet nobody messed with you My first dog walked me to school and back every day, he was an angry mut, and hated everybody. He didn't ever mess with me after our big fight in the spring of 1986. I bit him because he stole my sausage. My dad made me sit in the corner for 20 minutes and made me promise I'd never bite a dog again.

If I didn't "know" you as well as I feel like I do from this terrific forum, your story might have surprised me...
I have a few funny stories, I will refrain from posting but I bet you would get a kick out of. Yes, a dog his size kept quite a few away from not only our house, but I think our whole block when I was young lol. Quote:

Actually, I'm willing to bet your stories would kick my ass, that beast as the main character is a win. The Finnish pointy ear dog (yup, no idea what that is in English so direct translation is my way to go) mine was weight abt 40lb.

Who would want to see a white car if we can look at a gorgeous dog.
I just had the most humiliating moment of my life. Thanks goes to two random dogs, my wild kiddo, and me being being an idiot. So, anyone needing laughs?
