If all goes well, I'm hoping it ships this weekend, then it should take about 3 weeks to get to the dealer.

Anyway, my point is, if you see something maroon w/ a classy touch o' brightwork flash by you around Thanksgiving, just let go.

+1 for Soul Performance Products in the realm of P car aftermarket exhausts. These guys are masters at creating the best sound and minimizing any drone for any application. All of their products are 100% made in the USA too. I tried tagging them but they've been banned. I'm guessing they left a post on that G8x third-world subforum that didn't include any ass kissing of the new model.

On F8X specifically, this is exactly what I've been saying forever at this point - and where I see F8X heading in its golden years: "Note that after early headaches, the M4 has become one of the most common track tools for weekend warriors. The S55 has proved responsive to modification, robust, and reliable. Any M3 owner looking to extract maximum speed from their HPDEs (without the need to wave by another Porsche 911) should look no further than the F82."
Thanks for sharing. That was a good read

I'm looking into them or Kline's inconel system is another great option as well.

Damn, what a rare find! Not only the condition, but also the colour. I've not heard of Royal Red before, and can't find many cars in that shade of red on the Internet. They had several other metallic red colours for the E39 - Calypso, Chiaretto, Canyon, which confuse me a bit.

Quite also fond of deeper metallic reds like Barbera, Vermillion and Indianapolis Red of the E9x and E6x era. Chrome kidneys go well with them.

BMW M is still very much a driver's brand despite whatever the heck they've been doing the past couple years. I've done trackdays in several countries here in Europe and never had the only F8x there. Multiple lads already tracking M2 CS'. AMGs and Giulias, on the other hand, are a different story.

I say BMW M because the AG models have strayed quite far away from the enthusiast, unfortunately.

Great read, that, by the way. Really like this paragraph, too, that more or less sums the M3 up for me:

Quote:
And despite its ever-evolving form, the M3 has remained deeply desirable. It’s less stuffy than a Porsche, more functional than a Corvette. You’ll see fifty M3s at a track day for every Audi S4 or Mercedes sedan. In that way, an M3 – brand-new or ragged with abuse – is a secret handshake, a membership card for those in the know.
And I'd add that the upcoming G81 M3 Touring will be THE ultimate car to do it all. Not one person in the world would ever need more car than this.

Can't wait for the "why buy this when you can have a sports car and an SUV" posts. If the M3/4 is the ultimate trackable daily driver, then the wagon only amplifies it... Just need to find a way to stick the G20 Alpina B3 front end on it.

John Gaydos is the contact at Soul. Feel free to ask him any questions. Nicest guy on the planet and a whiz when it comes to the art and science behind a quality exhaust system. He's also a PCA instructor with a badass Cayman R.

I am probably still doing Akra just out of habit but I do look at his threads.

Waiting on their solution to remove the dumb Sound Symposer from the Cayman.

Easiest way is to literally put a sock in it. It isn't through the speakers like most, it's a diaphragm/tube thingy to the cabin from the engine bay.

Good article besides them comparing the G82 "shnoz"(R&T words don't ban me mods) to E9x M3 switch to 8 cylinders or F8x switch to turbos. Saying people will eventually get over it like in the past. I don't buy that argument one bit. Never has a new gen M3 or M4 design language been this hated. People don't just dislike it, they despise it. What we should be talking about is the G8x switch to torque converter automatic(the normal mechanical change banter per new generation), but instead all anyone really talks about the "schnoz". So E9x M3 is known for V8, F8x known for turbos, G8x known for it's schnoz...see the difference R&T.

Yup agreed on that. The automatic to me is the biggest fundamental change from prior M3s (not including optional xDrive) Not that every M3 had a slick DCT, more that every M3 always pushes the boundaries with the *best* available automated option given their technology at their time. Going ZF is very clearly a cost cutting move, and by their own engineer's admission it's not as fast as the last gen DCT and just "good enough" (see their G8X transmission video)

It also allowed them to pair it up with the AWD system. If they didn't go xDrive, I think they'd still have the DCT.

FWD BMWs run a Magna-supplied DCT and it is 250 Euros cheaper to order than the second option, Aisin 8-speed torque converter.

Yeah they definitely couldn't run AWD with the last gen DCT. The disappointment in my mind is that they didn't want to spend the money to develop a new DCT that could have 1. been even better than the last one (which IMO is already fantastic) and 2. that is compatible with the xDrive transfer case.

I'm disappointed in the first place that they even decided to put xDrive in the M3 and M5. But it is the unfortunate result of horsepower magazine wars and customers' preferences.

At the end of the day it's exactly this. The enthusiast and the customer are rarely aligned.

True true, though in this case, I'd say the two are aligned quite a lot. People on this board love it.

BMW has also softened the blow with the available RWD mode in DSC off, however, I've not seen anyone go rear-drive apart from crazy Russians on instagram.

I often ponder about what I would've done to my M4 by now had I not opted for the 992. It's still an intriguing car with a lot of value. I wish it weren't so big though.
