Yup. My new potential plan Is getting rid of one of my other cars instead of the M3 CS to get a Cayman GTS. That way I won't miss the power! I don't know why I didn't think of this in the first place.

New GTS has flat six which it will be absolutely fabulous. But you can always tune S version you can easily tweak the ecu and increase 80 to 100 hp and tq but it will be still four cylinder.
Beautiful choice.

I'm looking for a coupe to have fun with in the canyons and on the track and auto-crossing. I'm open to out of the box suggestions! Some thoughts:
  • Doesn't have to be 400hp+, just has to be fun
  • Coupe
  • Nimble
  • Preferably used so I can make it a project car
  • No supercars, I'm not rich! Under $60k used preferred.
  • As much as I wanted a STI in the past, I prefer something a little more refined and "my age".

It's no secret that my current top choice is a 981 Cayman S or GTS. I've been lusting for one for months here on the forums. It checks all the boxes, but I'm open to suggestions and personal experiences!
I would say new cla 45 amg s. However its 4 door coupe.

I own a V6 AWD F-type and while its an amazing car, its not what your looking for if you want a light nimble car. My AWD Vert is over 3800LBS, if you did want the lightest possible jag I would get a base manual rwd coupe, do the lighter rotors, battery, tune and pulley and you'd have a really capable track toy/ weekend toy. But I would not not take it over a 981 cayman S and up, I would on the other hand take it over a 718 as I've driven the 718 and its a fantastic driving car but lacks the flat 6 soul and sounds awful. The sound alone is why I have not replaced my F-type S with a 718. Sound is a very important factor for me and loosing one of the best sounding 6's for a turbo 4, I'm good.

981 GTS with manual or PDK is an awesome option and so is an Evora, its not put together like a porsche but the Toyota v6 sounds damn near as good as the jag, and is a rock solid power plant. And it's a lotus, you're automatically cooler.

If I weren't such a 911 snob, I'd gladly take this. Should hold value well, too. Unequivocally better than any new M car.

Gt4 is a great car for sure but I pulled my deposit since I want to see what c8z is going to bring to the table on the street car side of things..

Not to mention the used cost of specialized track only cars like Radical and Lotus 2Eleven and truck + trailer is still cheaper than a porsche Gt car!

C8Z will lap a GT4 during a session... at less cost.

Just tell yourself “my GT porsche holds value better than that z06!!” when you are giving the point by at the track

and then say “but I drive a race car for the road that isn’t meant for drag racing!!” when an f80 with mild power adders and 2 child seats in the back takes you to gapplebees on the freeway

Kidding aside, enjoy your GT4.

Unless you're a pro racing driver backed by a manufacturer, nobody gives af about your lap times. Sorry to break it to you hobbyists.

nobody but me and the guy I'm passing. and that's all that matters.
I'll be out there running with GT3s at double the cost while we run laps around a GT4.

I slept on these because this too was my frame of mind also. I was locked into thinking other cars (like some of the one's mentioned in this thread) were worlds better, UNTIL....I drove a Stage III tuned Mini JCW GP2!!!

C8 corvette easily. Get a cheaper spec or wait a little bit til the lightly used ones are under 60.

Don't get the Supra. It's gonna feel like a huge, huge downgrade. Interior, exterior, engine, and probably even dynamics as well as transmission are a big step below F8x especially the CS.

I would wait on a C8 for the refresh, also if you want one you may have to wait a year or so anyways due to the long list of reservations. Anyways, waiting to see if they fix the understeer issue and many reviews have said it feels a bit lacking in handling/feedback compared to the C7. While the C8 is good, I think it is the starting point of something greater with the more variants we see, the Z06 should be one hell of a car!

My $0.02, it’s a safety feature since base vettes end up at hertz and will be by far the most powerful car most people will have ever driven.

Hold judgement until z06 released?
