roll bar and tires

i want to get the studio rsr roll bar but i also want to haul my track wheels somehow. currently it's three wheels wide in the back seat and one in the trunk.

i don't think if i get the roll bar i can fit the wheels in the rear seat, even if i remove the hoop. my concern is driving the tires to the track and getting a puncture. it's rare but it has happened at the track.

is there a gold standard solution for this? a wheel configuration i haven't considered? or just suck it up and drive the wheels there?

it's possible. i'm fine with any solution if it works. the trick is i'd like to know before i commit. i think it's probable but that hoop brace makes me raise an eyebrow.

your harness bar solution is nice but i got into a discussion about what happens in a rollover. i'm trying to solve all cases before i have to make a harder decision.

Yes, that topic is controversial indeed.

I recall chatting with a cage builder who said they could easily build a half cage that accomodates tires loaded through the trunk

M3 or M4? I have personally seen an m3 with a rear half cage fit track tires and a Jack and a few other items in their car with no problem. The removal of the rear seat is what gained them the needed space.

it's an m3. the fold down part or the whole seat? i'm fine with either, the rear seat won't be used (cage). just want to plan accordingly.

Never thought of this before but it makes a lot of sense! Forced me to look into it a bit and then I came across this old thread: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1823057

A tire trailer with this setup would be incredible.

I also came across this which is equally incredible and something I totally needed to see:

i looked into hitches but i'd either have to cut my diffuser i'd try the stealth hitch and that seems hit or miss.

trailers weren't cheap and i'd have to wire it up. both can be done but i'm getting into more than i wanted to do. i think i'm going to try seat removal and see if that works first. if not, i'll decide if i'm keeping the car long term and go the trailer route.

Another way would be a roof rack set up to carry a couple of tires. Seen that on a 911.

I've seen Miatas use roof rack as well. Not a bad idea just poor gas mileage when going to the track

For you F82 owners Bimmerworld sells a nice cage that (per their description) will accommodate tires under the rear bar.

https://www.bimmerworld.com/4-Point-...F82-Coupe.html

No drilling required to install. Uses existing mounting points. Confirmed with Phil Wurz @ BW.
