VIN's are usually allocated to a order number quite a bit before production.
The exact time depends on the production planning department as far as I know.

They have to allow enough lead time to start making VIN specific components like the wiring harness before the actual body construction begins.

I have received VIN numbers for orders up to 2 weeks before production (not M4 GTS)

No, NA should get up to 579059 if the 350 units number is correct

Just found out my car went into production Friday, October 14th. It had been scheduled for Week #47 all summer; not sure why it got moved up. My VIN ends in K579046. Per KKsigs numbering (above), there should only be 13 or 14 cars after mine. KKsig; I believe you had the same week originally as me (wk. 47). You might want to check!! Yahoo!

KKsigs; After you receive your automated message, they'll ask if you want to talk to a customer representative. This gets you to an actual person. They will give you far more information than the automated system. I call 800.831.1117. Note: I was always getting the same automated reply as you. It wasn't until I was able to speak directly to somewhere where I started to get good/better information.

Schnell - your GTS should be in 155 status as of October 11th. While this means production complete, it really isn't. The GTS is then sent to Individual where the GTS specific parts are added. That takes approx 2-3 weeks, figure end of October, then 4-6 weeks, depending on boat schedule.

Yeah thanks I know, I talked to the rep and still stuck at week 48. Hopefully sooner as well though!! At this point it will be winter so not much we can do now!

Well, keep us posted on your progress. You'll probably end up with car #300! Wouldn't that be sweet! If you don't get car #1, the next best one is the last one!
