How much is a fully loaded M4? vs Cayman GTS

Hey folks,

I am thinking to order a Cayman GTS or a M4. Their price seems similar. Both will be a PDK or a MDCT.

Cayman GTS will be over 100k with necessary sports options added to it while M4 will be around 82k loaded minus carbon ceramic brake.

I don't like luxury options.
M3 Euro delivery MDCT, Adaptive suspension, HK, 19" -- $62K
Cayman GTS -- $96K Ouch.

Not sure where you are getting the 100k figure as the majority of the performance options minus CCB (not needed) and ptv are included in the base gts price. With the upgraded interior ptv and some other options my build always comes out to 85k

I was tired of no one knowing anything about order dates, allocations, possible release dates, etc.

I bought a Cayman S yesterday after a really great test drive. They gave me a great deal and all this M4 crap worrying about when I will get my car and if I am out of warranty is over. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Porsche have been so long at the "evolution not revolution" game they have begun setting the range by it too, the new GTS models are a perfect example of this, not enough anything but just enough of it to charge a bit more over its lower spec brothers, Porsche is dead in the water, I've bought my last.

If you add M perf parts like LSD/brakes/suspension.exhaust..... the M235 can get up there in price. When I build an M235 it usually comes out to $54K MSRP because of the $3K for the LSD

I priced a Cayman GTS with very light options and it was over $100k in Canada, before taxes and all the other fees.

A loaded M4 is over $102k here with all possible options before taxes etc. M3 is about $1000 less. So yes it does cost more than $100k. I can't imagine spending $100k on just the M3/M4.

My M4 isn't cheap either at $94k but compared to the Cayman GTS it is about $15k cheaper and I have more options in the M4. I just priced a Cayman GTS and with couple options I was over $100k easy.

So glad i moved to the states for work, planning for a m3 sometimes next year and it will be around 75k pretty equipped

I wonder what everyone else thinks about the M3/M4 vs a Cayman. I heard some REALLY good things about porsches, how they are completely different from other cars and the handling is not even in the same ballpark...

Anyone who owned both would like to chime in?

The MSRP for a very well equipped M4 with DCT is ~$81k in the US (Euro Delivery would be $4,445 less). This includes almost all options except Carbon Ceramic Brakes and the Driver Assistance Plus Pkg. A comparatively equipped Cayman GTS comes in at ~$94k per the Porsche configurator, so you are looking at around a $14k premium for the Cayman GTS.

Attached PDF contains comparative pricing detail.

Wow. I am really surprised the freight and PDI is so cheap in USA. Up here it is $2995. WTF?

Sadly, I think we all know Porsche is afraid of cannibalizing 911 sales if they bump the CaymanS' hp up too much... and they are probably right.

Driving a CaymanS is probably the most fun I've had on four wheels. YMMV.

The new GTS has been bumped up to 340 HP (which is nice), just 10 hp shy of where the 911 Carrera is (350 hp). I think that's as far as they are willing to go with the Cayman. And I'm sure we can all agree that with some simple tuning, the CaymanS can easily see 350 HP, too. But I bet we'll never see it- from Porsche at least.

The same engine is shared, but the CaymanS will always be in the shadow of the 911...as far as corporate is concerned. Another thing- the Cayman is the lowest selling Porsche model they make. IMHO too many people are hung up on what other people think- "oh yeah, you must have bought that car because you can't afford a 911..' and so forth and so they pass on the Cayman. There is a lot of that snobbery and attitude out there, and it's affecting sales.

Would I buy the Cayman GTS over a CaymanS? Possibly. Both are great cars.

I can confirm the Cayman S is a damn good sports car. Handling is fantastic. When I drove it the only down side I felt was the lack of torque down low. You can really feel it coming out of corners. However I think the Cayman GTS may have addressed the issue because it has slightly more torque.

I can't compare it to the M4 but if the M4 is close to the Cayman in handling then it would be a winner in my books.

The monthly payment for any Porsche is really ridiculous, way more than BMW, although I have heard that BMW subsidize a lot to keep the rate down.

I priced a 911 S at $158k with $10k down on a low mileage lease (8000 kms per year) residual was 51% after 36 months and payment worked out to $2400 a month

I'm sure someone could modify it to get 400WHP easy.

I think the Cayman could really use a price drop. I don't think this would drastically hurt 911 sales, however the aggregate amount of sales would undoubtedly increase. Many of us would have more seriously considered this car had it been more in line pricing wise.

IMHO concerning the looks department the Cayman (GT)S is the winner compared to a 991-911.

If it comes to weight; Cayman; 1 - 911; 0

If it comes to price; same all over

Engine placement; same all over

Engine power; reversed, but that`s the only item

Number of seats? Now, would you be "sitting" in the back of a 911 for your 1 hr drive to the museum? I don`t think so, so lets call it even for both cars.

Anyway; driven E46 M3, E92 M3, now a E82 1M, a Cayman (GT)S could be a possible successor indeed, as said before by Top Gear; what would you possibly want more?

Well, it is more than sufficient for my needs It`ll do the job just fine.....
