Yes, you're correct, it is making new street car shopping really hard for me.

I need for whatever new street sports car I buy to be trapping over 135mph because of that "blow the doors of sedans criteria", and the only car to do that without an exorbitant price tag are the Z06 vettes

As for the track, wow. All I can say is that it is sobering to be using a "spec" car with a datalogger.

EDIT: My F80 was $60k before tax ($67k with tax) via euro delivery, and when I was looking, I recall configuring 991.1 S with minimal options like PDK, sport chrono, sport exhaust, sport PASM, seat memory, xenon lights, bose stereo, nav, and recall something on the order of $125k-$130k pricing.. it has been a while and my key takeaway is the non GT cars aren't worth looking at new.. at least the GT cars can hold value

911 = sports car.. it was built from the ground up for that.

The M3 is based on a 3 series. Its a commuter car. I got one because its a fun daily during nice weather and its offered with a stick when no other competitors offer one. Its a better daily driver than a 911. But not a better sports car.

Base 911 > M3 CS GTS Comp Individual Jahre or whatever else there.

Only you can answer the most important questions. Which do you like driving more. Which can you feel more comfortable buying or leasing. That’s up to you

My car decisions are based solely on that. What feels best driving for fun? What is best for you behind the wheel. It’s all about driving for me. Period. Status and all that first world pretentious bullshit should be irrelevant. It is to me anyway. Why do you care what others think?

Check out this review of the 2019.

I haven't driven the new model but my opinion of the previous gen is that they're great cars for their segment, but you're still driving a small SUVs/ crossover. You're not getting a sportscar or true Porsche feel but what you're getting blows most of the segment away.

Best comparison I can personally make based on cars I've driven is to the X5M. The X5M was a monster in a straight-line but felt like a boat. The Macan S was actually fun to drive and felt more nimble but didn't have the visceral power of the X5M. Not exactly the same segment but the closest comparison I can make...YMMV

Have had 3 Macans in the family : Turbo, now GTS, and a family member has the base.

The Macan is the vehicle you get when you (and by you i mean your wife) must have a crossover, but in your heart you’re still a sports car driver. It’s no sports car, but it comes closest to it in that segment. Sport Chrono and PASM are a must, though.

The base has perfect real-world power, but no REAL power if you know what i mean

No. It’s slow and drives much better than most (almost all other) SUVs, but it is still an SUV.

I've driven them several times, they aren't that quick, but the speed does sneak up on you since they are so quiet. The handling is not bad for this segment, but numb compared to a 911 or Panamera.

I know horsepower isn't everything but the Macan S doesn't make an attractive proposition when optioned with PASM, Sport Chrono, Sport Exhaust comes out to like mid $70k and I got my X3 M40i for $55. Plus Porsche Money Factor is in the almost 7% range. I guess Porsche does a good job of weeding out the poor wannabes who have to settle for BMWs.
That's a fair argument. Porsches are definitely not the best value for your dollar, especially when leasing. Although to be fair, bmw is nigh on unbeatable amongst the Germans for leasing

My wife and I are on our 3rd Macan...now a GTS and we love it. In fact, have helped a bunch of friends move out of M3/4s into Macan GTS and turbo models. While the GTS certainly isn’t as fast or handle as well as my 911 or 718 GTS, it is easily the best in the segment, and truly feels like a car and brings good looks, great quality, and great engine and exhaust notes - plus the sport seats might be the best seat I’ve ever sat in in a car. It’s just a fun car to drive.

I agree it is probably the best overall SUV in the segment. Except for maybe a Stelvio QV when it comes to dynamics. But, I definitely disagree that it feels like a car and is fun to drive. Maybe if you haven't driven fun cars before it is, but not after.

This is my problem with Porsche, especially their SUVs. I like my cars fairly loaded and I can get a comparable BMW for at least 30% less.

I disagree with the Panamera comment. We have a Macan GTS and a C2S and both are more enjoyable to drive than the new Panamera. I love the look and the 4S is wicked quick but not an engaging car to drive.

On another note got an X3 M40i for a loaner and really enjoyed it. I thought it had the old BMW magic. My wife really liked it and thought it was a compelling competitor to the Macan.

I mean. There’s a POV that anything short of a GT car is badge whoring so just depends how far you want to take it

I think it’s smart to consider the base models for an SUV. You get the steering feel, features and badge without paying for engine power that’s hard to use around town.

(And on that note, I think Perfomance SUV aren’t that great in the first place and should get suv for towing power and space, not handling and acceleration).

Have you driven a GTS? Agnostic of “other” fun cars, I still think it’s fun to drive and feels more like a car.
The Stelvio is Macan turbo performance pack fast...maybe faster. It’s actually a nice car and a lot of value for the money. I’d certainly consider one. I had a GLC63S coupe Edition 1 (two of them in fact - long story) and that car was also quite fun and riot to drive - fastest SUV on the Ring to at 7:48 on Pilot 4S tires.

I’m not a fan of SUVs to begin with and yes, I’ve driven a GTS Macan. It does drive better than nearly all other SUVs. But, it is still is a heavier/higher center of gravity vehicle and feels like it to me. So no it doesn’t/didn’t feel fun to me like a fun performance car. Don’t get me wrong it is a very nice SUV and I’d take it over regular appliance sedans like Camrys/Accords etc.

I haven't driven the newer Pannys, we had a '12 base and now a '13 GTS. Neither is as enjoyable to drive as my C2S though.

You have to keep things in perspective, two different cars with different price points. I wouldn’t say the F80 is a down grade at all for what you get for your money. Porsche 911 is on a different level.
