It asks for your pin and then you're done. No signing anything. This chip in pin card works everywhere in Germany and very easy
You could still use your regular "swipe" cards over there right?

We experienced the same thing in the UK, chip & pin cards are the standard. But, they do take swipe cards and I used mine regularly. Although, some people fumbled around at first not knowing what to do. I also overheard a waitress, in a London restaurant we ate at, explain (to presumably another tourist) why they use the chip & pin cards vs. signature cards (basically theft/fraud).

I read that the U.S. is one of the few places that hasn't adopted chip & pin cards and still uses the swipe + signature method.

BTW, more greats pics, and loving the story Doing ED for my 40th (less than year and a half) is becoming more and more of a certainty as I read more ED trips hah. We'll see if I have the heart to let go of my V8 equipped IS-F though...sigh, decisions.

Yeah I use Capital one because they have "Zero" currency exchange fees

Well yes you can, and sorta...lol. My Capital One card (with no foreign transaction fees) is not a Chip card...in fact, in their infinite wisdom they are replacing it with a chip version of the card NEXT week. Yeah, a bit late there guys. So I brought the regular swipe version (aka..non-chip card) and used it fine at the Welt as well as paying for hotels. But, if your transaction uses those handheld devices (or kiosks) you're much better off using the chip cards (like my wells fargo atm card). That was my experience.

Glad you liked the post, and good luck with your ED, should you go that route. It truly was a once in a lifetime experience for us.

I see this post made the news....i'm not done posting yet! I still have one more journal entry.

Enjoyed your posts very much. Your style of phototaking seems quite similar to my own and make me miss not only my BMW but also my beloved photo gear (why oh why did I come back to school). BUT, I'm planning on ED as a graduation gift to myself so your awesome posts only bring me closer to that. Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed! I'm a terrible photographer...not even "amateur", but I did bring two cams with me, my Panasonic Lumix LX-5 which is small but has a nice Leica lens. Great for places where you don't want to be lugging around a DSLR. My other camera was a Nikon D80.

Enjoy your future ED

Yep....mine said "I thought it was going to be like this race track or something...it's just a highway." OR "For being the autobahn, I think all these speed limits are kind of lame."

Btw, you'll appreciate the next post tomorrow.....It's brief but Augustiner-Keller centric. Boy did we have a good night. Thank God the hotel was a block and a half away.....I'm sure if I made a left out of there I would have ended up at the Marienplatz and wouldn't have known any better.

Again, thanks! Your thread was one that I subscribed to...a big inspiration.

Haha just showed my wife the comment and she says "see, I'm not the only one" hahaha
We stayed at Regent which was a block away also, and thank god for that distance. Beer and the spot was unbelievable.

I'm happy to hear that. Without these postings, it would make it less enjoyable and less informative. Have fun... And let the grueling wait begin.
