Well.... I grabbed CarPlay from the store this morning and installed. I have it on my Pioneer head for my Jeep and absolutely love it. Easy to use, touchscreen access makes it work just like my phone.

In my M3, however, I absolutely HATE it. Obviously not touch screen so you're scrolling around or using Siri. When you pull up songs, the song you are playing shows up on the screen, but you can't see the next one in line via the HUD using the scroll wheel. It's clunky to navigate through. You're using either iDrive or CarPlay, but not both. So, for example, if you like being able to read your texts etc. with CarPlay, but want to use the map from iDrive, tough. You can't do it. What's worse is that my car absolutely freaks out when I try to switch from one to the other. Bluetooth at it's worse. I had to completely unpair the car from the phone, and reinstall. That wasn't even enough. Finally had to turn the car off totally and restart to get my Bluetooth to switch back to iDrive. Definitely a monster fail.

Thanks. I've been considering getting it. So you're saying you can't scroll through your songs on the HUD? If that's the case than it's much worse than what we already have. I find bmws iPhone integration to be really good. I'll definitely avoid it

Correct. You can see the song title you're listening to currently on the HUD, but when you try to scroll up or down to select another song, it's blank. Supremely disappointed. Before you spend the $300, maybe see if there is an M3 or M4 at your dealership that has it installed so you can try for yourself. I'm a huge Apple fan and love CarPlay, but the integration here is a huge miss

Indeed the same experience for me, it's boggy, clunky and "freaks my car out" as stated above !!

yep waste of money, but will help with resale

i was hoping current sms/text messages on my phone would display, but i can't seem to get it to work like that, it only offers new message voice to text (you can do that with siri anyway by just holding down voice button on steering wheel), unless im missing something?

My wife's X5 has ApplePlay and it sucks. As stated before you basically have to pick between the idrive universe and the apple universe. The only thing appleplay does better is text messages. Otherwise idrive is much better. Put it this way... after a week my wife gave up on appleplay. Needless to say I won't be spending $300 to download it from connecteddrive store. Maybe down the line they will integrate better but at this moment in time.

Going to keep an eye on this as I have an early build MY17 and was really hoping this was a cool integration. Sounds super clunky for now so I will at least see if its on my ConnectedDrive store but leave it be at the moment. Hopefully Apple and BMW can get it working as it should.

Getting it to work is one thing. Apps which support it is another. Right now I don't see any reason to use it even if it was seamless.

If the let apps like Waze work- that would be different story

I've had nothing but problems getting my iPhone 6 to work consistently via blue tooth. Sometimes it works instantly and flawless and sometimes it won't connect at all. I've been through all of the troubleshooting and I've asked the genuis too with little luck. I would be happy to pay $300 if I knew for sure my phone would connect everytime via CarPlay. Has anyone with the CarPlay experienced connection issues prior to CarPlay and now it works with CarPlay?

I had a few issues with BT prior to downloading CarPlay. If you think the issues were bad before, you'll feel like you walked through the gates of hell trying to switch between CarPlay and iDrive. Worked with a genius today and he was getting as frustrated as I am. Won't connect, need to delete phone and reconnect, turn phone off, shine your shoes, pat a bunny, and then MAYBE you'll be able to get it to connect again

ya, coming from a 14 435i to the 17 M3, the bluetooth is much improved IMO. it syncs a lot faster. haven't had any issues at all, texts always come through, etc. (using an iphone 7+).

I'm actually seriously considering it. Been talking to BMW about removing it from my car and refunding my money. Nobody seems to know a way to do it.

removing it is probably difficult. but i would ask for a refund regardless. i mean i would be able to deal with most shortcomings, but not being able to scroll through your songs via the HUD is a huge issue. Once you get used to doing that stuff on the HUD it's amazing. why they would release the system without that is a huge head scratcher

Negative. It shows the song that is currently playing, but not the one before or after. Totally wretched implementation. SOOO glitchy

yeh i switched back to idrive for managing phone

not only did i not like the menu graphics when calls were coming in (looked like a playschool game), but the phone contacts didn't work by voice recognition. also voice to text has no advantage over just holding the voice reg button on the wheel and asking siri to read or send text

like i said, will be good for resale later in the year as apple carplay seems to be latest buzz word
