▀▄ eas | DIY: LCI Tail Light Upgrade for F82 M4
The BMW M4 has been on the market since mid 2014 (2015 model year) and this year we get the LCI tails on the 2018 models. Our M4 LCI Taillight consists of OEM BMW parts and is an upgrade is a simple taillight swap that can be accomplished by the DIY type.
The release of the 2018 LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) introduced some minor improvements to the vehicle. On the exterior side, most noticeably with the taillights. This DIY will give a quick overview for those to update their lighting to update the rear of their 2015-2016 M4 Coupe to appear like the LCI models. An LCI Upgrade from EAS consists of Inner/Outer taillamps, trunk lamps (4 total) and Plug and Play (PnP) harnesses. History EAS has been performing R&D on taillight retrofits for a number of years, leading back to the E46 M3 models. We were at the forefront of the E92 taillight swap back in early 2010, continuing onward with open Q&A sessions to fully explain the steps and show a bit behind the scenes on R&D: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=382162 http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=382162 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=372215 http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1180839 Let's begin:

Wiring 12. Plug in Harness connectors to the inner trunk tail lamps as shown on the image below. Orange Long Wire – DRIVER Side Trunk Tail lamp Grey Long Wire – PASSENGER Side Trunk Tail lamp Route wire alongside existing harness and secure neatly into place using zip ties, while routing down passenger side of trunk support arm into battery location. Insert wire terminals from PnP harness connectors into the following locations. Connector will need to be separated in order to see numbers imprinted with wire location numbers PIN13 empty socket location, insert Grey wire (Passenger Side) into this location Orange Wire (Driver Side): PIN 5 empty socket location 16. Reinstall WHITE connector back into REM module (note orientation) and lock back into place. Reinstall Trunk liner, handle, support arm covers, screws and verify wire has enough slack to properly open/close trunk. Use zip ties to secure wires cleanly out of obstruction. Coding Coding is necessary in order to activate inner tail lamp blinker/reverse lamps. Outer lamps will work normally without coding. 1. Add “HELC” (without quotes) to HO-WORT of Vehicle Order. 2. VO Code REM module. No other coding is necessary. Note: If coding does not activate inner lamps, it may be possible your M4 is on a very early I-Level (typically on early model MY15) and needs to be updated. Most have already been updated at dealer at some point of service or have compatible i-level software. Install completed. Enjoy your new LCI Taillamps!

M3 LCI still uses bulbs for reverse, M4 uses SMD LEDs, you can see them in the video on Post #5.
No additional coding other than was is already listed in the DIY is required for M4

installed these tonite. not too hard. might be helpful to add to DIY more details on installation of inner lights - and need for a deep 8mm socket. i had no need for 12mm socket. a headlamp is probably near mandatory and if your a geezer like me some reading glasses. some extra felt liner rivets might be helpful for some - i had a rivet that wouldn't unscrew and had to destroy it to get it out. the wiring was easier than i thought it would be. it really is pnp. it took about 2h for me but i went slow and was learning as i went.
haven't coded yet but the outer lights were functional. |
