Looks like the head is cracked. I’m no expert but I would think it need to be replaced. Ultimately almost anything is “fixable” but in this case replacement seems like a better approach.

How did we end up here with the head off? Is it tuned? Did it overheat? Blown head gasket?

Spark plug broke off inside the head, so head had to be removed to remove the broken spark plug.

I see. If it’s just a broken plug, I would think you have a good chance of removal and repairing the threads and you’d be good to go. But in the pics it looks like the head may be cracked. If it’s cracked I would say replacement is needed. What is exactly is the shop saying?

Can’t rebuild the race car so I need to part it out. I still have my daily driver F82.

Wont be able to tell without pressure testing head. Unfortunately this is super common on s55 heads and not always do they require a replacement. Your problem would be the matter of taking apart yours and pressure testing it you are better off just buying another head due to labor cost. Another obstacle is being that this is super common on s55's finding a used head that does not have these minor cracks near spark plug might be difficult. To put into perspective my car made 850whp fine with similar cracks.
