I'm finally in trying to flash my car. I'm getting the warning prior to flashing the Stage 1 93 Octane map and those warnings are great but, its really not straight-forward to know where to go to perform the OBD Unlock. I just realized that there was a post about it but, had I not read the forum I would have not know about it. Also the fact that it still warns you to "Ensure you've UNLOCKED your DME before flashing" when you click on "OBD Unlock" seems like a bogus message and could make some people think you're not in the right spot to perform OBD Unlock.

For those who are trying to perform the OBD Unlock go to: My maps > Stock Tune > Flash > OBD Unlock

Went through the DME unlock process which had a shit ton of lights going off on the dashboard. Said "success turn ignition off for 20 seconds" - I did, then turned the car on and it stumbled a bit then turned off on its own. Then I turned the car back on and it had some warning messages and turned right back off and won't start.... HELP!

Lol why would you go and flash your car after reading all the above posts. They know the issue and are working on the fix.

Or any tips to avoid this are appreciated!
Thanks
With bootmod, you can read and clear codes through the platform.

CEL from downpipes usually take a bit of mileage before popping up, it's never instantaneous.

My recommendation would be to flash to stock at the dealer (flashing will clear all codes automatically). The dealer should not be putting any mileage on the car during service, or enough mileage if they're just checking a fault.

because they said they were able to identify the cause up above and I thought it had something specific to do with the way the people performed the OBD Unlock...they also didnt say "don't anybody try this until we fix it"...

obviously if I could wind back the hands of time I would have just waited instead of having a non-functioning car...yes I should've just waited...:

Made a really quick video explaining how to use BM3 OBD Unlock and Offline Flasher that should help people going forward.

Thanks for the video upload.

I think i watched it enough to know what to do but basically these are the steps, please correct me if i'm wrong

1. Have battery charging
2. Unlock your DME by going into Stock Tune and clicking the big RED Flash button, then click OBD UNLOCK(wait about 260 seconds) then this will unlock your DME
3. Go back to your MAPS and pick the map you want to tune, click DOWNLOAD FLASH LATER(so you can have it for offline use if need be later)
4. Click the big RED FLASH button and then FLASH [DEFAULT](takes about 40seconds)
5. Turn engine completely off for 20 seconds, then start engine back up
6. Enjoy

I think this may a case of "The early bird catches the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese."

All good. My timetable is the start of boost season, so I can wait a bit for this to get sorted!

The support from the BM3 guys has been nothing short of amazing.

My car is back to stock, but they're working out the bugs in the ots maps. Like I said, if you choose bm3, you're in good hands, just be patient and let them do their thing.

I just got my license tonight and I'm
Gonna hold off until tomorrow to get started but I just wanna know if I'm getting this straight. If my car doesn't have the most up to date software update from the dealership, the DME unlock and flashing will not work? I have a 2015 M3 and during my ownership, I have not take it to get any software updates in the past year. Any response is much appreciated.

With the up most respect to the BM3 guys. But bricked cars, the oversight of all the different software versions cars across the world will be running.

And now OTS maps that have been available for years (?) for bench flashed cars now not working, as they needed to be tweaked? tweaked how? is it not the same? Are the CS and GTS ones ok?

I've gone from being excited for this to now scared to try it! I get there are problems when new things are released, but there isn't a successful OBD unlock and flash is there in all the posts apart from the closed testing vehicle, percentages are showing it should go back into closed testing.

You’re way overreacting. World doesn’t live on just this forum. I’m sure they’ll share details on what they encountered with a couple cars on first day. After all its past 3AM where they are and I’m sure they had a crazy day today.

I don’t think any user had a bricked DME that required bench operation to recover it. Unless they are not reporting it, which means the car would NOT start at all. Most users said their cars went in limp mode or that they had flashing issues,... That just goes to show how complicated our cars are and even with all the testing you can do.

Regarding software versions, very interesting and complex situation...

Sorry not totally bricked you know what i mean. Bad update, flash whatever you want to label it.

Please share the resolution this might be helpful for other users.

It's not complex if you know your product which the BM3 guys must.

Regarding sotware versions, we keep what is in the car and support that. We do not update the cars without telling the customers.

The DME's won't brick, there has been an issue with OTS delivery for the new OBD unlock cars that we already isolated.

Obviously fair few people voicing concerns can we have some people that have successfully OBD unlocked with a new license and uploaded / flashed a new map, GTS DCT / TCU settings etc and had no issues give some feedback?

Any comments on this as at least two others, excluding myself, have this issue ?
