IMO M doesn't sell cars for you to add M performance parts on them. To me that wouldn't make sense. It is for non M cars to give them some custom upgrades to be like an M car. I would think if you wanted to mod your car, you would go outside M to do it. The carbon fiber stuff is cosmetic and is up to your taste. Some people don't want to see it everywhere and just use it tastefully in certain places. I don't really see this as a conspiracy. The Pebble Beach car was more of an unveiled concept. Concept cars from other brands usually look like space ships, compared to the production cars.

For the sound, the reps at Detroit and Philly said they sound awesome in person and not like the sound bites we get. I would reserve worrying about that until you hear it in person or drop 3k on a custom exhaust

But ultimately, steel remains bloody strong. There is a good reason why the landing gears of aircrafts are still made out of steel...

Carbon fibers are classified by the tensile modulus of the fiber, below 34.8 million psi. Steel has about 29 million psi, making carbon fibers 10x stronger. Pound for pound yes CF is stronger however I believe you are making a case for volume occupied by materials for comparison in which case an equal size CF driveshaft would be compared to a steel one. Per Volume (if they both take the same space amount up): Carbon Fiber is actually still 5x stronger than steel. It is also 2x more stiff. anyway you look at it CF is more durable than steel in any scenario as demonstrated by the steel vs CF driveshaft stress test seen online. Steel is still used in landing gears because it's a cheaper material that gets the job done. However new designs out by Plane manufacturers are full of CF parts.

Trade for M4 or keep I8?

I am a new owner to the BMW I8, but not new to BMW. I just turned 18 and I am thinking of trading my I8 to an M4. Now before anyone asks what I am doing with an I8 at 18 years old, let's just say I live a privileged life. I don't want to go too much into that when I am seeking advice. Anyway, I am going off to college soon and don't want a car that would attract too much unwanted attention. Also, the I8 would be kind of hard (if not impossible) to charge on university campus. What should I do? M4 or keep the I8

Depends on what you do at campus...

The i8 seat material does not handle fluids very well, the M4 leather is a lot more resilient
