Uniden R7

Who is gonna get one? Do you think it's worth the extra $200 over the R3?

I've heard nothing but good things about the R3. I currently have a passport escort 9500ix. Thought I'd pick up the R3, but the R7 is coming out around April. So maybe I'll wait it out?

It's supposed to have an automatic lockout.

I just got an R3, debating if I want to return and wait for the R7.

This is what I've been waiting for! Where do I sign...totally worth it, have loved my V1 but want the GPS lockouts...and have to have arrows.

I'm in.

I wish pre-orders were available so I could stop checking online for it.

I've had the R3 for several months now and love it (had an Escort 9500ix before the R3 and miss the auto-lockout feature). I absolutely plan to get the R7 as soon as it is released and pass the R3 to the wife (to replace her 9500ix). Seems like a perfect win-win that's been in the works since Vortex Radar announced the R7 was going into production.

As of today, it's finally available for pre-order. It's $599 and is expected to start shipping around the end of March.

Yeah, it's not going to be available initially, but it'll be added via a downloadable software update.

Ive had an R3 for about a year now.. have an old escort in my winter/crap weather vehicle. Once the R7 is out and has had some debug time, I may get it and junk the old escort.

The only thing that concerns me (and makes the redenzo so attractive) is the size. Smaller is better and if it isn't much better than the R3 after the released version is out, I will explore again. It's a big unit. The arrows are cool, but Ka is Ka, regardless of where it's coming from, so I slow down quickly.. lol Im in NJ, so there are other bands used, though most in my area are Ka based (including the state police). I know which use Y (and one town actually uses X..yikes)

Why is this better than an Escort Redline? Do you seriously keep speeding if the arrow points away or do you just slow up until threat is gone? How is this any better against laser? Is their a laser jammer component (as an add on?)

Here's a test against a few different models (including a Redline EX):

For certain tests, having the rear antenna in the R7 provides better sensitivity for those situations.

I don't think the R7 has a laser jammer built in (anyone correct me if I'm wrong here), so you would still need a jammer if you wanted to protect against that. One thing that I saw in a review about the R7 was that the BSM (blind spot monitoring) still seems to false positive on various cars and has not been improved since the R3. Also, auto-GPS lockouts are not a thing until the patent expires.

Nothing other than a laser jammer (not part of r7) and luck will help you with laser detection. The only useful warning might be the old stand by, lots of brake lights up ahead. If your detector is picking up a strong laser signal it’s probably too late.

For those that have the R7 and came from Valentine 1...or perhaps Vortex can chime in...will a V1 hard wired adapter work to power the R7?

Nevermind: Answered my own question. R7 works fine with all V1 power cords.
