S55 Turbos and Wastegate Actuators Covered by Emission Warranty

Hi all,

I was just reading through this S55 technical document and noticed the turbochargers are listed as part of the "exhaust emission system" as they are connected to the exhaust manifolds. The wastegate actuators are also noted as having "an important function of satisfying emissions standards."

Does this mean those components are covered by the 8yr/80k mile federal emissions warranty?

Interested in your thoughts and experiences.

I had my valve cover gasket replaced on my F30 under this same warranty in Maryland. The dealer did it no questions asked which was nice.

After the factory powertrain warranty was up they replaced the valve cover under emissions warranty? Wow.. that's pretty awesome. Anyone else have experience like that?

There's a whole giant list in your owner's manual. It even covers the mechatronics unit in the DCT.

Hmm just checked my manual.. it says the federal emissions warranty for 8yr/80k only covers the catalytic converter and the ECU. I would argue much more goes into the emissions system.

IIRC California-owned cars are covered differently (better) in this regard vs non-Cali cars.

Perhaps we're talking about different warranties. Read the California emissions section of this.

A handful of other states follow California emissions standards. I'd you live in one of those states all these things are covered. I'm in Maryland and had no problem.
