That raspy sound is horrible.
F30 body looks better with the camouflage. |

I don't know why everyone hates that sound at 1:42!? The initial part sounded like the e46 M3 and I liked it but then it sounded like the driver short shifted which made the fart sound like the F10 M5.

I wonder if the engineers will settle on creating the same artificial sound through the speakers

The front looks very angry. I like it. Hopefully we'll see some M4 soon.

I'm going go start recording who complains about BMW's prototypes and then who of those who complains eats their words upon release of the actual vehicle. I'm betting at least 50% of the people complaining about the sound of the test mule absolutely love the sound of the production model.
Come on people, give them time, it's a work in progress. |

Guys, I think you have to stop focusing on the sound and how it "does not sound as good as the s65." I think everyone knows nothing going forward is going to sound as good as a high-revving V8 engine so focusing on sound is pointless. If you were expecting something different than you were dreaming because just listen to the m5, it sounds good but nothing like its predecessor or the m3 type sound. The m3 will sound similar to the m5 and you need to just accept that and get excited about the other parts of the car that WILL be improved.
I personally am excited for a new super high tech turbo engine which I know bmw will continue to improve and create a great flat torque curve which would not surprise me if it is as flat as the S65 only with twice the torque. Given the redline of the m5 at 7200 I believe, I personally think the m3 will be at 7500 redline which really is pretty darn good for any engine, let alone a turbo. For those hating to see the NA high revving engine go, it is simple, just keep your m3 or pick up a used m5/m6 or m3 and keep it for a weekend car or as a car to drive once and awhile. Atleast that is my plan. My m3 s85 is not going anywhere and that would be a stupid move IMO to get rid of the last high revving v8 ever produced by almost any car company. Not for collectibility but for shear enjoyability because although I am excited for new tech, I will inevitibly always enjoy some variety and the scream of 8400 RPMS with that sound is something that will always be simply intoxicating. |

maybe another new first for M3. external speakers playing dynamic noise based on live engine diagnostic data. new bmw app lets you pick any sound you want. do you want S65 noise? how about S65 with straight pipe? how about flat-plane crank V8? V10?
this car sounds horrible. don't care if its not tuned yet. e46 also sounded horrible but I still loved it. instead of wasting time tuning the sound, just make the damn car not have any turbo lag whatsoever. if they can pull it off using electric turbo and keep the weight in check, i'm in. if i could choose noise, i would want it either silent or diesel locomotive.

F32-prototype in the background?
Did nobody notice the black camouflaged F32 4-series coupe in the background of the video @1.06. Although it looks like a 6-series coupe, the size is definitely more F30-like. Like to hear reactions on this.

Well you don't have to wait long for the real thing. It's the next M car. And despite Scott26 previously talking about X3M debuting the new M3 engine engine, it's not going to happen has X3M isn't happening at the moment.

I actually liked the E46 ///M3's metallic rasp. I'd be glad if it came back in the F30 ///M3.
People kept on moaning about the loss of the E46's sound when the V8's came around, now something sounds similar it's again not good enough. And obviously this is just a prototype so it'll sound different than this in the end. If you don't like that sound go have a look at this to hear why the potential of its rasp is good Most of you guys are gonna slap on an aftermarket exhaust anyway
