So this could be the prototype we seen under wraps a few days back? Hard to tell much about the design. I think it will be a good progression from current model. I think it will be E92 with F30 + new 6er styling.

My only concern is the front end. I hope the front grilles don't stick out too far like the F30. I also still cant get over the name. M4 sounds terrible.

That doesn't look like an M front end to me.

I agree with this. I have a strong preference for the styling proportions of the E92 M3 vs. E90 M3 (hence why I bought one), but the mules of the F80 do seem more aggressive than this F82. Maybe the additional doors of the F80 give a visual impression of shorter overhangs? Maybe the coupe really is longer.

Both look good, but I'm already planning how to make an F80 happen via ED in a few years
+1 the F80 looks down right menacing even with the camo.

This coupe looks so weak with it longer, seemingly more narrow and not as flared fenders.

Time will only tell...

Perhaps I missed some info posted here but is it 100 percent certain that the M3/M4 is going to have electric steering? I'd figure since the M5/M6 got hydraulic steering, the M3/M4 might get it too.

Yeah I already have ED planned out. A certain special someone is probably going to get a ring in Paris while I am there.

It's mentioned in the article. See the list of facts at the end of the article - says EPS completely reworked for the M3/M4.

I hope they don't go crazy on the price.

Nice. I'm a bit ahead of you... and took my (then) 11-month old daughter with us on ED last year. That was a challenge, I tell ya. You'll probably have better adventures with your gf/fiance.

Ahh..missed that bullet point. How unfortunate. We all know the main reason for electric steering is to improve efficiency so anybody know why the M5/M6 got hydraulics while the M3/M4 is getting electric?

I guess all we can hope for is that BMW actually read all the reviews on the F30 steering and made some much needed changes.

That means the F8X has a 3.3l V6 90° based on 4.4l V8 90°, but the article says it has a revised N55. One of both must be mistaken.

Keep in mind this was a really nice way of saying it sounded like shit. Sure it's possible they could do something different to the exhaust before its released and I highly doubt BMW cares that I personally think it sounds terrible.

Yes, they're probably fine tuning the stereo to play more fake exhaust noise through the speakers...

Hahahaha well played. I will say the car does look really good in person. The M4 also looks pretty good, having sat next to both cars in traffic and had enough time to take in the design.

I'm sure the M4 nomenclature will grow on me. I like the specs were currently reading. I just hope they ditch that jammed in IPad looking nav. The nav on my 2011 E92 335 with its flowing hump looks finished. This current Fxx nav really looks like a bad afterthought to my eyes.

The power dome in the E9XM cars was functional. The engine in the F8X cars clearly fits under the bonnet without a dome, so it's highly unlikely that BMW will add a cosmetic power dome after the fact.

The F30/31/35 and F32/33 won't get their LCIs at the same time. If the launch of the sedan and coupe are staggered by 18 months, then so will their refreshes. The only question will be whether or not the F36 Gran Coupe gets its own LCI or if it will be tied with the F32/33 refresh.

I would love to get an idea of what an M2 might look like.
For what it's worth, the E90M and E92M share the same differences in proportion that you mention above, so I wouldn't be surprised if that carries over to the F80 and F82.

I'm not such a fan of those wheels. I like the 20" M5/M6 wheels better. Even the optional 19" wheels on both of those cars are nice. Here's hoping the optional M3/M4 wheels look a bit more aggressive.

Thank you southlight for that rather thorough analysis and write-up.

Of course they won't. The design is already finished and implemented in existing cars, and you can clearly see it being tested in that F82 mule. Why would they change it and blow out their entire production schedule?

Agreed on that point. Given that the wheel in question is 19", it probably is the optional one. The standard one will be 18" if the E46M and E9XM are any indication. Or do you think BMW will actually offer a 20" wheel on this car?

Either way, there's always the upcoming ZCP wheel in 2017

At the price they are going to ask I really think they should offer 19s standard. Honestly that is frickin pathetic if they don't. All the competition offers 19s standard. As big as this car is I am sure 20s will look normal anyway. I will be genuinely upset if I have to pay for 19s. 18s look so small on the current coupe. I do think the e90m looks great with stock 18s though. Besides I believe the 335 has 18s standard so hopefully offering a larger wheel as standard will happen.
