BMW F80 M3 Prototype Spotted One Block From My House (LA, U.S.)!

I couldn't believe my eyes as I looked to the left and saw it !!

It looks pretty sweet (even in spy), and it sounds freakin mean!!

I think the driver was trying to avoid me taking pics because when the light turned he sped off and I heard that awesome exhaust growl..

Never have I been so excited to see a car... It's my baby.. just 5 years newer and all grown up!

You can see the hood scoop and some nice big brakes

I just wanted to get out of my car and undress her.. Enjoy!!

Those are non-production mirrors on the prototype. The production ones remain hidden under more advanced prototypes, as seen HERE.

I sat there beating on my iPhone's cameras snap button.

I can not wait to buy that car. Seeing it that close sealed the deal.

You must have seen these in Germany right? I would think there would be 10x the amount of them in the home country.

I see spy cars all the time here, but ususally not anything I'm interested in. The last spy BMW I went nuts on was back in 2007 when I saw the E92 M3 in Hollywood. So this is just deja vu!

The area I am in is back country. There is nothing out here even though I am in the home of BMW, Bavaria. I think they stay around Munich which is 2-3 hours from me.

nice... there's a BMW testing facility near there. I went to school near there.

I remember back in my "rice rocket" days I was in a hurry to get to my GF's apartment when I was rushing through Westchester, down to Playa Del Rey, through the marshes, and into Marina del Rey when I stumbled onto the prototype E46 M3 being tested late at night. I could've taken a more direct route, but this was much more fun.

Anyhow, the test driver in the E46 M3 thought I was trying to snap pictures as I was driving very rapidly myself (1994 Honda Accord Coupe on Neuspeed Springs, Koni Shocks, and Neuspeed rear sway bar).

Just so happened the route the test driver was taking was the same as my route, late at night, and no cars on the road... he was pushing the M3 and I was keeping up since it was more tight turns and round abouts than out right speed

Please share where this BMW testing facility is. I have been in Marina Del Rey for about 7 years, and if I knew that, I would have invested in a tent and camping gear!!

I don't exactly know where it is... It's probably some sort of Wherehouse in Marina Del Rey... I always see prototype BMW's around there. They come out when they think is the least busiest time.

BMW has desert facilities for hot weather testing, nurburgring for high speed and handling, northern facilities for cold weather, and west LA for testing in fancy environments.

The pics of the rear trunk / integrated spoiler are as clear as we've seen them anywhere - if not clearer. Looks phenomenal imo.

Is the exhaust blacked out here? I'm confused.

Interesting touch on the side view mirrors - not sure how i feel about those.

Yes, BMW does have a testing facility in Oxnard. I am 99% sure I know exactly where its at. I've seen the current 7 series, 3 series and 5 series when they were testing them about 1, 1/2 years before I ever saw one of them on the road.

They get pretttttty irritated when they see someone chasing them trying to snap pictures/video of the car. Last time I chased one (B7 Alpina) about 2 1/2 years ago, he was weaving in and out of traffic like a mad man. It caught me completely off guard.
