Lightbulb I just had beers with BMW M engineers who say s55 inline 6 with 3 turbos

I just had beers with 3 engineers at hofbräu house in München. The "next generation" m car will have an inline 6 with 3 turbos.

Inline 6 with 3 turbos sounds great. This engine will have a lot of potential and might surprise quite a few people.

I hate to go there but...

I just got back from my driving lesson with Walter Röhrl and then Friedrich Nitschke did a DCT fluid swap on my M3. Fred told me the next M4 will have more torque than the outgoing model.

If this is true I'm concerned as well. BMW had a devil of a time with fuel pumps and now we're gonna have 3 turbos. I was just starting to get intrigued and excited. I still am but this dampers it a bit IF TRUE.
This car's gonna be something, I just don't know what...

What size motor will this be? If its a 3.3 tri turbo and has the tuning capabilities like the 335i does then I cant wait. I bet 600rwhp is easily possible

Wouldn't a third turbo further complicate aftermarket tuning?

Hard to imagine that engineers working for BMW are allowed to leak information.

I don't see the point of 3 turbos. Imagine the exhaust manifold, and the hot piping to the intercooler. It's gonna look ridiculous. Let's see how this pans out

A turbo for ever 2 cylinders.... massive potential... but complex... I can't wait to see the schematics on this engine (if it's true). I'm still more interested in the M2 when it comes out, but this thing is going to be lovely I'm sure.... Minus the electric steering, unless they've solved the feel problem like Porsche did with the new GT3. Time will tell...

It's BMW guys, they are the masters of making complex things reliable. Have a bit of faith. They're already doing fine with the tri-turbo diesels.

Not sure if serious or super-troll

On toppic- I have heard that the 3rd FI component may not actually be a turbo. Time will tell.
