I don't hate the new M4 or in my case the M3. I like the styling a lot and that's all we know. No one knows how it drives or how it will sound in production.
But I have concerns. I've owned one F-series and driven many others and they are very different and just aren't what I'm looking for. I've said many times that I think the F8X will be truly different to all other F-series. I think it will be BMWs redemption car to quite and show all that given the likes of the M5, M6, F10 and F30 a lukewarm reception what BMW really can do in terms of the Ultimate driving machine when that's their main focus as it should be with the M3 if any car. I want it to be superb and would love for it to crush the E90 M3 in every aspect but I think that will be a pretty hard trick to pull off given the current M3s many virtues. I won't hate it unless it only comes in that baby puke green/yellow color. Give me nearly any other color and I'm good with it.

You can get off your soap box, there are many of us who - if the desire to switch to the F80/F82 prevails - will do so when released. There are others such as myself, who prefer the the character/attributes of the S65 engined E9x ///M's. I will lament the shift from the N/A exclusive engine manufacturing philosophy of BMW ///M to the new fuel efficient/main stream/one size fits all marketing antics currently being served up by BMW. Since 1994 I have owned 13 new BMW's, 4 being FI (3 N63 and 1 N55). I can safely say from experience that the FI cars are extremely temperamental. Engine Malfunction Reduced Power error codes to lumpy idle characteristics. Those who have spent any significant time with these engines know what I am talking about. It also appears the S63 & S63 tu are no different in this regard. The N55 in my wife's F25 has proven to be reliable, but exhibits the aforementioned idle issues at times. Only time will tell how the S55 fares performance vs. reliability. As far as the exterior aesthetics of the F80/F82 are concerned I think it's a win. Interior I will have to reserve judgement until released. That being said, I wouldn't mind having an F82 "in addition to" my E92 ///M. You can label the E9x ///M's as being out dated, relics, old, and whatever other adjective you wish to add. It doesn't change the fact that it is the one and only V8 M3, and comes with a unique, old school, analog (non-artificial/synthesized) sound track with an 8400 red line, instant throttle response, and carries the crown as one of the greatest ever. Damn I'm in love all over again

M4 looks great, but my m3 looks just as good. Didnt see a huge revolutionary change between the two.

I own a 2008 E92 M3, and I feel like they're taking out the heritage an pedigree they have invested in the name. The M3 Coupe is a fantastic car to drive and the name alone speaks to the sheer amazing breed of the car.
That being said, I had a Z4M Roadster and I would love to see the new M4 be as agile as that felt while still maintaining the daily driver characteristics. The one thing I will miss? That symphony the high-revving V8 makes in my ears and the thrills it creates. It's an extremely unique sounding engine and losing that special niche would kill me. I won't be trading in right away, but I will be going to test drive it ASAP to have a better understanding of what this new car is. Cheers either way to a legend. |

I love the look of the F80/F82. I think the car will have allot of new & cool tech options that we see now in the M5/M6. (Heads up display, heated & cool seats, surround view, connected drive) But, it missing one thing! The engine. BMW claims it will have the same hp but, 100lbs more tq. IMHO, M cars should be loud. Look at the C63. AMG can keep their V8, why can't M do the same? The current E9X weights allot less then the C63 already. I'm sorry to say but this may sound dumb but, I feel that this new engine will just be 335i (N54) on steroids. I'd say wait till the next generation M3/M4 in 2020 & I guarantee that BMW M switches back to the V8. Until then I will drive my 2011 E90 M3 for the next 7 years.

Right now the M4 is not enticing me to order one.I am not that excited about a FI inline 6 cylinder. My wifes 335is convinces me everytime that a turbocharged engine is not what I want in my performance car for track duty.I am seeing a normally aspirated high reving powerplant in my future, sort of like an S65 but mounted behind the seats

Although some say that the F10 M5, although is turbo, does give instant throttle response - is it because its a twin turbo, and is that why the F8x needs a tri-turbo? hmmm...... |

I have a E92 M3 and i voted dislike....although "neutral" might be more accurate.
Overall it's kind of irrelevant in my case since it's highly unlikely my next car would be another M3/M4

I'm sure it will be a great car, but I can't say I either Love or Hate it as yet. It has my attention and will be on my radar for my next car.
The E9X M3 is such a great car that the F8X M3/M4 has some big shoes to fill. From the looks perspective it looks like the natural evolution from the E9X. At the same time you can throw on splitters/diffusers and whatnot onto an E9X to make it look almost as aggressive. I am looking forward to seeing the engine specs, so I will pass judgement until we see the final product. The spy shots of the extremely busy engine bay make me weary about long term maintenance, but then again who knows at this point.

How about we get behind the wheel and drive it first before we describe this car as hit or miss?

^ The poll, quite obviously, is based on initial reactions and even uses the wording "thus far".

I owned 2 E92 M3s , and 2 E30 M3s and think the M4 is a total sell out by BMW
it's what happens when your marketing team has more power in the company than your engineers.

The M3 it's all about handling and driving pleasure. At this point we can only talk about looks that is highly subjective, so must wait for a real impression.
I must admit that the E92 was THE car for me. When it came out i was 18 and that was my dream car, so it has a special place in my heart.

I'm looking forward to seeing the performance specs, and would definitely consider another M3. The M4 concept looks like a beast, and the recent M3 spy pics are getting me really excited.
I could use some advice and thoughts from you all. My M3 lease ends soon, and I'll probably be leasing another car until the next M3/4 (or M2) comes out and I'm able to get one. Any of you experiencing the same situation? I'd like to know what good "in-between" options there are, in your opinion. A lot of decent options depending on the criteria. My budget is <$1,000 US per month. Wanting to take advantage of the early lease return and loyalty discount, so I'm staying with BMW. Thanks! |
