Finally pulled the trigger for ID5/6 retrofit

Old thread... but I've read some comments that upgrading the iDrive unit from 4-6 (as in, replacing the entire physical unit not just software upgrade) will void the warranty. Can anyone comment on that? I have an extended warranty for another 4 years and while I want the newer iDrive and CarPlay, it's not worth voiding a warranty.

Most recently I saw the comment regarding voiding a warranty here:

It might void any electronics connected to that system directly? Maybe not the whole car. These are usually a case by case basis.

I would hope it wouldn't void the warranty of the entire car, that just seems excessive. And second, although it is a modification to the car, it's still an OEM replacement. Would love to know if anyone has more info on this.
