Convertible roof strength/integrity?
Just wondering if anybody knows of any tests/research that has been done on the F83 convertible roof strength. It looks like the IIHS, NHTSA, and Euro NCAP have not tested the M4 convertible (or even the M4 or, in some cases, not even the 4 series). Most cars that go through the test have some sort of roof strength test. For instance, with the IIHS, they do a specific roof crush test and measure the results in pounds and a strength-to-weight ratio. Obviously, with no B pillar, the results probably wouldn't be outstanding, but it would be interesting to see what the hardtop can actually support on its own (without the help of the rollover pop up bars).
I know some tracks don't allow convertibles at all unless they have a full roll cage, but some do allow the F83 for HPDE and track days. I'm just genuinely curious to see if there's any info out there. Or maybe you (or somebody you know) flipped their car (with roof up or down). |

Damn, both of them essentially get up and nearly run away. I think luck may have more to do with things in this situation. Did the "rollover bars" pop up? I don't recall seeing them, and clearly if the M comes down and crushed a driver/passenger with another car those bars aren't going to help too much. |

Yah, I went back and did finally catch seeing them. Oddly though at 1:44 I caught a glimpse of the seat backs and they don't look anything like mine, 2018 F83 ZCP. D I'd they change the seat design at some point, or is this not really an F83? |

Look at the front bumper: And no wide body flares either. |

WTF!
No seat belts and they lived! The driver looked like gymnast flying through the air.
