First BMW, First M - Newbie Questions!

Hi All,

Just got a new to me, MY 2017 M3 Competition in Alpine White. Have only had it a few days, but love it so far. Have previously owned a C63, Macan GTS, and F Type R. I think the M3 is the best power to handling ratio of the bunch, at least for me. C63 sounded awesome, as did the F Type, and was super fast off the line, but not as fun around my curvy roads. The Macan handled excellent, but always felt a little underpowered.

I have some newbie questions though that I am hoping you smart folk can help me with:

1) What is the difference between the throttle mapping modes, and the drivelogic? In most of the cars above you are either in comfort, sport, or sport+ mode which effects the ride, and shifting. That I comprehend, but then how does the Drivelogic setting sit on top of that?

2) I have the side and top view cameras. But they never turn on when I am parking somewhere? They only turn on when I manually press the button. Is that by design? Already scraped a parking barrier with my CF lip, doh.

3) See above, who do you recommend for CF lips lol?

I don't have a ton of answers for you but I would like to say that front spoilers are basically seen as a consumable item for our cars. Get the plastic ones and expect to go through them every now and then. I'm partial to the M Performance lip but there are a ton of different options out there.

In regards to the parking cameras and such, you do need to manually put them on when pulling into a spot.

One other question I had, saw in the manual (yes I actually looked at the manual) that there was a section for park assist (auto parallel park). Is that standard on every car that has the side and top view, or a specific option that has to be included in the build?

No it's not standard. I had the same question with mine since I had the cameras. I don't recall what the exact option/package is called but just because you have the side cameras doesn't mean you have the auto parallel park function.

Agreed I would go with regular BMW front spoiler just incase you hit front end and it's inexpensive to replace. I got these installed last year and pleased with the outcome.

+ 1 MP lightweight plastic lip is the way to go. If you don't like the finish, IND has different options but you start to get close to quality CF alternatives.

To answer questions number 1 for you...drivelogic adjusts the quickness and intensity of the shifts between gear shifts. Setting 1 is designed for smoothness and seamless gear changes...its also very lazy. Shift points are in the lower rpm ranges. Setting 2 is more aggressive, the car will hold revs longer if you driving in Automatic mode and you can feel the gear shifts a little more. Setting 3 is very aggressive, you can feel the gear shifts thump you in the seat under heavy acceleration and in automatic mode it will hold the revs into the upper rpm ranges before shifting.

I don't think anyone actually has auto parallel park do they? Maybe its only an option on the f30s.

I had this option but never used it.
