Anyone else get banned from the G8X section for making fun of its looks?

I grew up in a post-Soviet country. I don't wish to anyone to live in a place where they cannot express their opinion. And if they do, they or their kids won't go to University, for example.

My Grille Theory of the Day (GTOTD™)

In Frank Stephenson's 4-series design review vid above he said the grille's design lines completely mismatch the rest of the design - and "look like it came from a different car" ... then he said, "I'm not even sure BMW designed this..."

Given he worked with the BMW design team for more than a decade, that seems like a big statement ...


My GTOTD is the grille design came from Brilliance Auto Group's design team.

If you don't know, BAG is BMW's Chinese two-plant partner in Shenyang that owns 50% of BMW Brilliance which sell BMWs in mainland China - My guess is a deal was cut with them: put this grille into the design and we'll commit to selling X# of cars ... which is more/less how BMW got started in the US and why Max Hoffman's family still gets a cut of every BMW sold in the US.

Further BMW has messed up the execution - the BMW design team couldn't figure out how to incorporate the grille (and maybe after negotiating down to that and some other elements!) thus the resulting car looks like the mashup it is.

Finally, BMW is willing to take this risk because even if they lose a lot of western sales, the Brilliance deal will cement the brand's presence in China with the 4-series already being a contracted sales success via Brilliance.

After seeing this thread I went to the G80 forum a couple of weeks ago and posted in a thread that Jason started trying to justify the banning. I stated that I was opposed to censorship and banning what were essentially members of a larger family. I wasn't banned but my post was deleted. That thread has now been closed to further comments, after most of the negative posts were deleted.

The G80/G82 has left me far less enthused with BMW. I didn't even bother to read their press release about the new cars. If BMW has any hand in the censorship going on in the G80 forum then I have even less respect for BMW.

The G8x is horrible. Thats not a problem because people are allowed to have opinions on cars. I kinda of thought that's what this place was. Its clear to me the new M3 was designed to go after the chinese market. It was literally the first thing that crossed my mind when i saw it. Im honestly surprised they didn't make the BMW roundel 4x bigger.

I could be wrong, but I'm certainly allowed to have that opinion, and the opinion it's hideous. Its not the only BMW thats been hideous and almost unanimously agreed on. So whats different now? Closing the political section was one thing, but suppressing the opinions on cars is entirely different. This isnt for me anymore. Only good thing left frankly is the thread in off topic with hot girl photos.


used to love this forum, now it just feels like it's sucked into the political "lets cancel to make sure no one gets offended" culture, or worse lets control the narrative to try and sell more cars.

This is the perplexing part - it's so easy to create a new thread in the G8x forum for design discussion and moderate it to ensure it doesn't turn into flinging-poop fest - if moderator time is a problem ...

When someone gets banned from a specific section, is it permanent or does it expire after awhile?

I sent something similar.

I never got a response. Basically I said I was very unhappy for being banned with no warning or explanation as someone who has been here for 12 years.

I do believe it's permanent. Not only did I get banned, I got points as well. The points expired but the ban has not.

Permanent and with no notification. One day I just clicked on the G8X icon and it said access unavailable.

That's pretty harsh, being that even if your opinion changes and you purchase a G82 in the future, you still can't participate in that forum..

They should implement an appeal process when the dust settles, on the new model.. Just saying..

Agree. I had to message Jason for access after the first ban. The second ban however in my opinion was just out of nowhere, I had no comments that could have caused a ban. I didn't speak about the grill, I tried to be nice when giving my criticisms and gave examples of why I didn't like certain aspects, and even complimented the car when I could but I must have pissed off someone because I didn't love the car. Never would have thought cancel culture would have made its way to Bimmerpost

Cancel culture is real. I think this proves it. Also I'm really astonished Bimmerpost is caving in my opinion to pressure from BMW to get positive reviews for their car. It could be wrong but it doesn't make sense. People bashed the F80 as well

Here's the thing, for better or worse, the G8x is part of the BMW culture now. One of the reasons I got into BMWs was because of the culture. Between talking to guys between laps, car meets, etc.

Now I'm being told I'm no longer welcome in the future BMW culture. That royally pisses me off. Who are they to decide who gets to belong and who doesn't.
