Advice Needed - To sell or not to sell?
Hi all, i have a 2015 F80 DCT this car was my dream car when i bought it brand new. Has around 49000 miles on it now. I took extreme well care of it, stock with some tasteful OEM carbon bits here and there. As well as some exterior OEM mods. Car is pristine.
I love the car, but right now it has been sitting on a lift and not driven much. I picked up a 2015 GT-R and have a Wrangler as my DD. The care is paid off and only reason i put it up for sale is due to the crazy used car market now. Seems like the F80s are in a little demand and i can get low to mid 40s for it. I am not in dire straights for the cash, but could be nice when investment opportunities arise. My ultimate goal is the GT3. So should i take advantage of the market? and sell it while i can get this price? Or keep it forever as a collection? or will it go up in value in the future? |

Nows the time to sell, the market is bonkers. If you dont need it and wouldnt miss it, I say why not. Get it while the gettins good.

No reason to keep it as a collectible. It will not go up in value in the absence of a strange market with constrained supply like the one we are in. Agree now is the optimal time to sell if you aren't driving it.

I agree. It’s not going to be a collectible. Nothing special about the car in terms of rarity. It’s just the shortage of cars that’s driving the prices up and not due to the new ugly m3. The dealers can’t get those cars fast enough to sell and people are crying for that thing. I would take advantage of the market and work toward your gt3. I’m going to be doing the same |

You won't need the money and if you sell, you will hate yourself in the future. Believe; a pre LCI F80 in 10-15 years will be somewhat rare and amazing to have, esp one you bought new that is meaningful to you. This is not about the money, avoiding a few thousand bucks in depreciation at this point, potential future value, or anything remotely economic. Its about kicking your impetuous self years from now for parting with one of the last great beautiful ICE sport sedans ever made.

I would definitely sell it. You have a GTR + a DD. Especially when your end goal is a GT3. The market is hot and now is the time to sell.

I've got a slightly similar issue as OP. Recently bought a 2018 M4, manual, base model. It's the enthusiast spec - carbon fiber roof, carbon cloth seats. Currently sitting pretty at 39k miles. Bought it at 34.5k, CPO. Thanks to the 'rona shortages (and probably the G82 being such a visual abortion), I can now probably get a bit more for the car than what I paid for it - 50k + taxes and all that. A local BMW dealership in Florida is selling an M4, similarly specced (only extra option is the leather upholstery), same color, 20k miles on the odo for 65k (or at least trying to), so I guess I could squeeze 57k for mine. I love the car. It makes me smile every day when I drive it. I honestly don't know what else I would like to drive if I sold it. But I'm also not too thrilled with the maintenance costs and monthly payments. I can afford them, but they don't leave a whole lot.of disposable income for other stuff. Any advice - sell or not?

i thought about selling.. but the only thing i'd use the money for is to buy something else thats more expensive and has also risen in price due to the shortage. so i'd be back at square one, actually probably worse off since i'd have more money tied into a car.
dumping the f80 and putting that money into the market while its in a dip would be a smart idea. "buy low, sell high"

If you are selling it to buy the GT3 then maybe. It's kind of like the housing market right now. You can sell high but you will have to buy high. Maybe sell high and wait a year or 2 on the GT3. And as with most M cars, if you don't drive up those miles and wait a long enough time (many years) there is the potential it will be worth even more $. Then again, if you sold it in January and invested in Dogecoin you could have purchased a few GT3's in cash🤣. I know I didn't directly answer your question to sell but just some food for thought
