Planning Track/Street F80 Build - ZCP value?

Forgive the question, all the "ZCP vs base" threads are really not helpful.

I'm running several weekends/yr with NASA NE, and looking to hop into a 6MT F80 for next season.

Looking to invest several $k into suspension, few $k into wheels/tires off the bat. Looks like can easily code CS/GTS steering+diff settings. Plenty of options for power once I grow into + get comfortable with the car.

Struggle to see the value in a ZCP taking all this into account. Am I missing something? Seats are nice I guess, but don't look to be night + day difference to stock seats on track... Would rather spend the price difference on seat time + reaching something more optimal in terms of track setup.

TIA

The biggest difference between older Civic M3s and a ZCP (or post 12/15 build date Civic) is the second option gets you the reinforced bedplate. Post 12/15 all the cars got the stronger bedplate.
I haven't seen any hard data showing that one bedplate or the other making a real difference, even in monster builds.

When you're going to build a M3 for serious track use, the special versions (whether it's ZCP, CS, even GTS) are of limited or no value.

The CS/GTS settings can all be coded and you seem to be buying used, so warranty is not a concern.

If you're going to do stuff with power you probably will want to do a crank hub fix

OP, I agree the ZCP probably isn't worth it for you, unless you come across one priced low.

Thx both! - confirmed my inclination.

Not planning anything crazy, my driving doesn't warrant it, but seems $$ would be better spent on upgrades. Crank hub fix planned.

Good info re bedplate, now that I've learned of it will have to get one that was built post-change. Looks like part no. for the block changed then.

There's no need to go crazy. With a good BBK and good suspension, an F8X is a serious track weapon

I think suspension and tires/wheels will get you where you need running NASA TTs.

That's the plan, over course of 2-3 seasons as I improve (only my second season driving this year).

Thanks all, can't wait for next year!

don't underestimate the power of a great bucket seat. of course this now becomes a slippery slope of whether you do a roll bar and harness... but your body exerts so much energy trying to prevent yourself from sliding around the seat. it's a night and day difference between my stock f80 and track e46.
