Buying new tires, returning leased M4 in 14 months
So I'm returning my car in 14 months. I'm going to sell or trade in my car before the 14 months is up and worst case scenario return the car to BMW. I'm waaaay under on the miles. My question is does the brand of tires matter when returning the lease or does it have to be the same? Tire shop down the street can throw some cheapo generals on for $800 or costco is $1000. Whats the word on this? Thanks

The lease language would indicate same specs as OEM. However, there have been posts of Dealer not accepting MPSS that are not BMW * (star) Versions. As Dealer does intake inspection for BMWFS, they pretty much call the shots and lease language pretty much gives them the ability to do that. Others have had no issues with generic MPSS versions. All depends on Dealer as they most likely will be selling the car on their lot. If you are purchasing/leasing another car, Dealer is much more forgiving on intake. http://content.bmwusa.com/microsite/...G4_640x360.mp4 |

Here's what I'm hearing" "I used up the excellent OEM tires that came with the car, but when I have to turn it in, I want to save money and buy cheap tires, even it the next person that gets the car gets screwed."
If a friend were to borrow your car, wore out the tires, replaced them with cheap tires, and then gave it back, how would that make you feel? Sound like you only care if you're going to get screwed at turn-in if they notice the cheap tires. But that's just my opinion.

I'm behind by your definition and proud of it. I have no desire to walk over people or treat others like trash just so I can get ahead. Life should be so much better than that.

How about you tuning your car then returning it back from a lease. Get real. |

There is a big difference in turning it in with different, but comparable tires, and turning it in with "some cheapo generals". I was being real.

Funny thing is the bank will actually make almost $10,000 on my lease return if I return the vehicle. I leased mine in Dec 2014. I've priced mine out and the average asking price for my car is $64,000 retail. My payoff is $54,000. Last edited by mrivc211; 02-11-2017 at 02:35 AM.. |

I've been leasing cars for 20 years. I've never heard of anyone buying stock OEM tires on a lease return. In fact, I've seen people buy used tires on their cars then return them. The only stipulation that I recall when returning a car I leased in 2002 was that the tires have to have a minimum tread thickness. Nothing about brand name. Thought I'd ask here since its been over a decade. |

In the case you stated, the Dealer might have sold another car to the lease owner and therefore overlooked those tires for the leaseholder. Bottom line, if there is a $10k difference in value between residual and average price, the Dealer is bound to be more accommodating than if the margin is $1k. |

Dude, you're making up your own rules and expectations of how to treat a leased vehicle. You're just throwing money down the drain. Do you know how many times a dealer has ripped me off?

Terrible analogy. Seems like everyone on here is trying to get thru to you but the lights are turned off. Anyways, I got my answer so I'm moving on. Thanks to those that responded.
