BTW, check out this comment on the G8X forum:

Something about the entire front end of this thing is just a huge turn off. It's not the grille alone. I've loved the evolution of the M3 up through the F80. I guess sooner or later, there was bound to be a wrong turn. Honestly, at this point I'd take the G80 if it looked like the M340i from the A pillar forward. Not that I think the M340i is exciting. It's just that conservative beats repulsive.

Nothing! just renting - insanely low rates ... Did have an X5 45e ordered but canceled it ... thinking of a Macan Turbo but waiting to see if anything cool happens in the next few weeks.

Heck, I could even be talked into a Tesla if the range and design were there with the new Model S, but ... that's not looking likely:

If it were more like this, I'd be in:

The fuck is Tesla doing... steering... non-wheels? What is this, a Formula 1 Model S? LMP1s and F1s don't need to go lock to lock in a city like virtually any other production car.

Whoa you have Individual Opal White as well? You definitely got additional customization that I never knew about!

Dealing with Individual, at least in 2017, wasn't the smoothest possible thing and some of the things I ordered didn't get done and some other things were done (incl that e-brake). This was explained to me during ED - nicely, but very German-like - as of course Individual did it this way because my way was wrong. I mean ok, at that point - and at that time - I wasn't in the mood to bitch so just bounced along with life. Looking back at it now, I sure am glad I did because that was a super fun trip that seems completely like a different era these days ... and YUP! 5!

You know it's direct out of the design department when the portion of the steering wheel that permits control is missing.

They must be very close to finalizing FSD. That knight rider steering wheel isn't going to be easy to use but if you aren't driving it doesn't matter as much haha

That steering wheel can't possibly pass US and EU safety regulations can it? Looks really uncomfortable.

E9x LCI had the quintessential classic BMW interior that I miss being in to this day. In some ways of better quality than F30. Retrofit NBT iDrive into an E90 and you've got a modern car still. I like the F80 instrument cluster, though, analog gauges with a display underneath. That's the perfect combination to me.
I would agree that the E92 interior was in some ways better as it was more elegant. The lines flowed better, especially the dash on the passenger side. I also liked the double pod with the Nav screen. I enjoyed that design very much in my E60 M5 (LCI version was much better and more similar to the E92). What I didn't like was the carbon leather dash. The real CF on the F8X is very nice and matches the sportive theme of the vehicle. The F8X seats are also better IMO, despite losing the thigh extensions (great for long trips). Even the HK system in the E9X was better than the iteration in the F8X. Not sure why the newer system wasn't as punchy or smooth. Strange there...
I agree about the sound system in the E90 generally... the Logic 7 system in my 12 yr old 335i still sounds better in most situations than the M3. I really need to turn ASD off in the M3 to see if it's any better. Admittedly I'm not an audio expert, and don't constantly mess with the equalizer... but who wants to do that for every song to get it just right.

Another day another G8X on the front page.

I have to say, these photos really show how poor the design is. The front end may be "bold" but at least be consistent if you're gonna go bold. The side is beyond bland, and not to mention looks bloated and chunky. And where are the body-lines? They are way too soft.

And hardly safe if the Fed's have anything to say about it.

The DIRAC Live sound I had in the M5 was pretty amazing. I would have to say it was the best in car sound system I have heard in a BMW. But I also haven't heard everything like the newer systems.

You may want to get it coded for the Bang & Olufsen sound equalization profile as I find it to be smoother and less harsh, with a higher soundstage, than the HK. Its definitely an improvement IMO. But let your ears decide.

yeah, the problem with the side profile is that its clunky and doesn't flow. I get what the designer was trying to do, but man, its just not clean. The side profile of the F8X makes the car look fast, draws your eyes to the vent and door line, and moves your eyes from front to back. With the G8X, your eyes bounce around, up and down, leaving your wondering, what are they trying to do here? Then on top of that, it makes the car look chunkier b/c they broke up the belt line. I'm not car designer, but man, I can tell it doesn't flow.

BTW, having just gotten a door ding, I can tell that the lower belt line crease is going to take the brunt of door dings and would be harder to work out hahah

The side profile overall looks weird! Almost everything about the looks of this car are a step back from the F80/F82.

Butterface in front, dial tone profile, toyota ass.

and the new Tesla S ... how is it different from the old one? I mean I wasn't a Model S aficionado so I'm probably missing stuff but from the outside it looks exactly the same and the interior too; ok new wheel and screen but is anything else different?

I hope someone introduces something cool ... I mean the M5 CS which should just be ok is looking like the most interesting car on the planet.

It seems Tesla is taking a similar path as Mercedes did with the R107 SL which ran for 18 years! While I do appreciate the interior changes and battery tech that finally bring it in line with the much cheaper Model 3, I do wish the exterior was freshened a bit more. Its still the best looking Tesla, but the design harkens back a decade now to 2011 and is in need of a newer, cooler and sharper look like many of the renders that have been posted online for years. I actually kind of wish that the Plaid models got the more aggressive bumpers and fenders that the test models on the Nürburgring had, wish there was more to differentiate a regular Long Range and Plaid/Plaid+ model.

While this rendering is a bit A7-esque I would love to see Tesla design evolve further.

good lord the G82 from the side looks all kinds of weird.

It's blocky, the lines don't flow very well and it looks like someone just folded the door.

Couldn’t agree more stein_325i ! Can we get more pics of that M2CS in the background?? That is the vehicle that should be on the front page.

Side profile just really looks off, its nondescript, literally! I can't pick out any 'BMW' features in it...maybe for the first time there really genuinely aren't any...
Take away the badges from the wheels and can you really tell you're looking at what is meant to be BMW's latest and greatest machine and design?

The latest video shot by teenagers at BMW M is on YouTube. This one talks about the brakes. Major differences from the F8X include electronically adjustable brake feel (normal and sport), brake cooling integrated into the hideous front bumper, 6-piston front calipers, and single-piston floating rear calipers.
