Does your F8x have PPF?

Hi all---
Wondering how many of you here on the F8x forum have PPF on your cars. If you do, is the car leased?

Backstory- I have 30,000 miles on my 2018 M3. The number of rock chips on the front bumper annoy me. Also the car tends to spray the front door panels and the rear fenders with rocks as well. If you look closely it almost looks sandblasted. Fortunately the car is a lease, and this is all under normal wear and tear. That being said every time I detail my car, I am bothered by the rock chips, even though you have to look pretty closely.
PPF makes a lot of sense on an F8x....so I'm wondering how many of you have it and what was the cost, and whether or not your car is leased. I have no idea what the cost runs, I can't imagine paying 5k-ish for PPF on a lease. However maybe paying around $500 to have the front bumper and other high contact areas seems to make sense. I have no idea what the cost is though.

I got lucky and the previous owner had the whole car PPF'd, its definitely nice not worrying about rock chips or any blemishes in the paint. I wouldn't pay $5,000 to have the entire car done but 100% worth it for high impact areas only.

My car is getting it done right now. Cost at the shop I use starts at $1000 for Xpel. You can definitely get it cheaper than that which may make sense for a lease. Cheaper may not be the best quality film or installer but it's still better than rock chips. I have it on my S4, only partial hood, but it's gotten the job done for 110,000 miles and it's definitely worth it. The bra is 10 year old now and and is showing it's age. It had been pretty clear for the first 9 years. Either way, the paint underneath is protected.

I had it on my F82 (but not entire car) and skipped it on my F83, which I had plan to return at the end of the lease.

Yes I have PPF on my entire car with ceramic coating (XPEL Ultimate Plus and Modesta BC-08). I went to Chicago Auto Pros (not cheap but they do quality work) and was very satisfied with them!

I would recommend most people get the full front (bumper, full hood, headlights, mirrors) and fenders. Rest is optional but the more you cover, the more money it will be but the more peace of mind you'll have.

Yes to all ur questions asked. This was the first car I have done entirely with Xpel ultimate. I never invested in PPF before bc i never kept my cars for too long. With my current F80 after doing the individual build my intentions are to hold on to it, so I decided to get full Paint correction, entire PPF and coating first thing upon picking my car at the dealership that same day. I can tell you that it can get a bit pricey but it's totally worth it. Night and day difference. I see ur local, hit me up if u want a contact, my guy is the best at PPF in the business.

I did the full bumper, lip, headlights, mirrors, front fenders, hood, lower rockers, removed oem rear fender panel and replaced with larger panel, lower rear bumper, and top of rear bumper.
Ran me 2300 from a high end shop. Extremely worth every penny.

I think it really depends on the current condition of the car and how much you care about keeping things nearly perfect. I bought used and it already had some rock chips, which has turned out to be a bit of a relief because I'm now less anal about keeping it perfect. I feel it allows me to enjoy the car more. If I had PPF, I would still get frustrated if a rock damaged the film, or I got a chip somewhere I didn't protect. If I were to do film, I would do the rear fender flares only. I feel the front bumper and hood will get dinged over time if you daily drive the car (regardless of whether you have ppf). If it just sits in the garage most of the time, that's a different story.

Most definitely worth it. Wasn't going to chance it with the car being a rare individual color. These cars get wayyy to much rock spray for my liking. I say do it!!

full Xpel Ult and Gyeon ceramic on the car for over three years now and very happy i did it. BUT, i own the car from new and have no plan to sell it any time soon.
pretty sure it would be a different story if i'd leased the car, hard to justify spending that kind of money to protect BMW's investment.
maybe PPF the nose and cheap ceramic the car, but that's it.

My wife's owned M3 has "full front" XPEL PPF, which is everything forward of the cowl and the doors, including the full bumper, hood, and both front fenders. In addition, the mirror caps were done and the stock PPF around the rear wheel wells was expanded to cover more area. The top area of the rear bumper, the flat area immediately below the trunk opening was also done to minimize any possible scratching by things that are loaded into the trunk.

I did full front, hood, and roof on my leased car. Wasn’t sure if I was gonna keep it but I’m pretty sure I’m returning it now. Would never do it on a leased car I know for sure I’m gonna return.

I have full body Llumar Plat. I would have to say that yes it protects, however some things still puncture it. Never do any partial kids like partial hood or partial fender. Full hood and full fender. Defeats the purpose if another area gets nailed.

I didn't do it on my leased F80, but I did it on my purchased. I love the peace of mind.

My whole car is done and it's worth peace of mind if you're keeping it. Kids touch it cats jump on it. Most little blemishes self heal but your paint is safe.

Up to you but putting PPF on a car that already has rock chips will result in some bubbling. I purchased my F80 with 25k miles and elected for a full ceramic and front PPF despite the detailer warning me that it wouldn't look perfect if the paint wasn't completely even. I didn't have full chips (BMW paint is very hard compared to others) but some minor divots. He did his best to even everything out and it looks pretty good but not perfect.

I dont have it and wish i did, front end is toast. Being lowered definitely doesnt help. Too late it install it now w/o a spray cause way too many rock chips.

No.

A person buying a 5 year old used car from me won’t care about a few rock chips.

I don’t tailgate -that’s the key.
I have very few blemishes in the front.
When I’m at the track I put on ConTact paper on the bumper and hood.

I did the PPF, started with just the front, then the hood, then the rest minus the trunklid as i never made it back to the shop before this whole Covid thing.
I ended up getting TLG mud flaps for the front fenderwells.

Although extremely expensive the PPF was well worth it.
I purchased my F80 new and am keeping for a long time, if i ever do sell it the person who is looking for excellent paint is going to care about how many rock chips there are in the paint.
