From what I heard, it's pretty 'random' on when our cars get on boats. There's someone in another thread whose car has been at port for nearly a month and a few that were at port for several days before they got on a ship. Mine was transported to port yesterday after production, I will update you when I find out when it gets scheduled to leave for the US.

How do VIN Decoders work? I know in general, parts of the VIN number mean different things (year, manufacturer, etc) but how do those decoders get all the individual options? |

VIN decoders query a central server for specific options that are tied to a VIN, and yes, VIN decoders should work the moment your car has a VIN assigned. The "production date" listed will be something generic, like 01-01-2001, until the car finishes production, at which point it will reflect the actual completion date, so it's an easy way to check to see if your car has actually finished production or not.

It took 23 days, but my car's production is finished and heading to the port today. Hopefully just a week or so at the port and then it'll be on a boat over to CA.

Yeah, it's Galveston. Probably complications due to hurricane Harvey. I was notified it has made it on a K-Line ship Brosporus Highway. It's on its way over and will arrive around Sept 13th - SO EXCITED

I lucked out and my car hit the port as the Fedora is being loaded, so my wait will be shorter than average. The Fedora is scheduled to arrive in CA at Port Hueneme on Sept. 28th. I also found out some pretty cool info. My M3 will be one of four with Santorini Blue worldwide, and one of three with a manual transmission. (So there is a 1 of 1 Santorini M3 with a DCT out there!) It will be the only M3 delivered to the West Coast in Santorini Blue. (There is obviously a Santorini M4 around these parts ) Last edited by TonySCV; 08-29-2017 at 11:33 AM.. |

I wanted another M3 but wanted to do something a bit different from the previous car. I've always liked the Melbourne red on the E9X's but felt that Ferrari red suited the lines on the F80 better. The stop in North American production meant I had to wait to order my car so it's been a long wait but it should be fun. |
