as many have said before, DO NOT REPLACE WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN OEM, especially if its a lease. When going over a lease we are now told to look for this & its a $600-$1200 charge on your condition report. Insurance will tell you that its fine and it will work the same, now this may be true in some cases. But a quick read through your leasing agreement & it will tell you everything has to be oem. Yes, you may sneak it pass an adjuster who does your lease return but BMW will be charging them back for it very soon after. So to avoid that, a lot of dealers are very strict on the windshield. So save yourself the time & the headache, request a oem glass & settle for nothing less.

I will be on my third. Random rocks on Freeway. The noise was LOUD. My replacement was ~ $450. No HUD. No insurance. I asked for OEM, but based on my price probably wasn’t.
I used Safelite. |

I'm at Safelite now having my windshield replaced on my 2018 M3. They told me they have guys at the two local BMW dealerships replacing windshields right now, so I have assume dealerships don't actually replace windshields.
They have been walking me through their process. They use a device called Ezi-wire to cut the windshield out so there's no chance in scratching the car. Here's some pics of the progress so far. Update: The new glass was installed using Sika polyurethane. After an hour and 45 minuets, it's done I was very pleased with the work. Final pics included |

Great photos...
FYI: HUD windshield has a particular mounting adjustment procedure, so the HUD projection is centered. If not followed then projection will look crooked or image parts cut out. Quote:

2015 f83 m4
Dear gents,
I need some assistance choosing the right P/N for my windshield (2015 F83 M4, Gulf Version, Region ECE). I have already done a bit of homework and found that there are different types of windshields to choose from depending on the features already installed on the car. I have gathered that it is critically important to choose an OEM windshield suitable for a HUD. Base on my VIN, my F83 has the following features:-
Which of the following should i select for my windshield?
I am leaning towards P/N 51-31-7-285-912. The dealership is asking for approximately 2200 USD. I will be paying out of my own pocket. TIA for any inputs. |

His location is shown as "Middle East". Changes everything. There may not be a reputable local glass shop, but I don't know, never been there.

Called the dealer and was informed the P/N is 51-31-7-285-912. Will order online and get it shipped here. Quote:
Absolutely right. Easier in Dubai than where i am in Doha. There is a severe lack of competent workshops locally. |

Hi gents.
I will be sending my car in on Sunday. I have read this entire thread and a couple of others regarding windhsield... can i confirm that the rain sensor does not need to be replaced? Seems like some workshops ask for a new one... while most dont? Please advise, thank you. |

I had to replace my windshield a couple of months ago after it got it with a rock. I went to Safelight here in Sacramento and got an estimate, then made an appointment. A tech came out my house in a van and replaced my windshield in my driveway. My insurance, State Farm, covered it under comprehensive. All I had to shell out was my deductible, $100 for comprehensive. I am completely satisfied with the job. My HUD and everything else works just fine. |
