Advice on engine bay oil leak

With some horror I noticed a large (almost half quart) amount of engine oil under my car today right after driving home. This is after an oil change and a 3-day track weekend last Thursday-Friday. My first thought was I did not screw the oil pan drain plug properly but when I opened the hood there was evidence of oil spray and accumulated oil on the intercooler mounts. Looking down into the engine I can see a lot of oil that has been seeping downwards and collecting into the oil pan. The oil filter housing is bone dry as is the area around the valve cover.

Am assuming I've sprung a major leak on a gasket or the oil cooler - any ideas on what in the general area of the inter cooler could cause a leak like this?

Thanks in advance.

Check under the filter housing as well if you haven’t already or any oil lines/fittings

I know you mentioned the housing itself is dry, could it be an issue with the oil filter cap? They are known to crack overtime and if the o-ring isn’t seated correctly or the cap not fully tight I wonder if it is allowing oil out with pressure.

Turns out it was the oil filter housing gaskets that had given out, so bog standard BMW oil issue… gaskets are being replaced at my local shop along with belts and hoses that got soaked.
