DIY / How To: BMW OE Fire Extinguisher
BMW Parts Needed
OE Fire Extinguisher Kit PN: 52 10 0 441 113 Tools: 10mm socket with ¼” drive (short handle) Flashlight (Helpful to see under the seat) Blanket to kneel on / prevent scratches to your paint while installing Step 1: Raise the seat to the maximum upward setting possible. Also, tilt the base backwards to the maximum setting possible once raised. Open kit and layout parts for installation. Step 2: Using your flashlight look under the front of your seat and identify the mounting bolt holes as shown below. Step 3: Remove fire extinguisher from the bracket and mount the plastic bracket, buckle side out, using the LHD or RHD bolt holes as appropriate for your vehicle. Step 4: Using the 10mm socket start each bolt a couple threads. Once all have been started, tighten each completely to 3.5Nm. (Do not over torque as seat base in not threaded.) Step 5: Remount the fire extinguisher. Step 6: Enjoy and hope you'll never need to use it. Last edited by stilljester; 08-20-2017 at 04:56 PM.. Reason: Added torque value to Step 4 |

I have been thinking about doing this for a while but was not 100% sure of the fitment on the F8X seats - great work! A few quick questions...
1. Why did you install it on the passenger side and not the driver side, where it is more easily accessible if needed? 2. Did you lose any motion with the seat due to interference from the extinguisher? 3. Where did you get your kit from and how much?

RE 1) It's designed / intended to be mounted below the passenger seat. RE 2) No, it mounts high enough under the seat that the range of motion is not limited. (If you have manual seats you will need to use the new handles provided in the kit.) RE 3) Ordered it from IND; shipping is slow given the hazard classification of the product. |

I suppose if you wanted to enlarge the holes and add a rivet nut you could. However, the existing holes and hardware have been sized appropriately for the job and work well. Just don't use a 1/2" drive breaker bar to tighten.
I'll edit my post to add the correct torque value now. Last edited by stilljester; 08-20-2017 at 07:35 PM.. Reason: grammer |

I just went to IND's site and only saw the OEM GTS fire extinguisher/bracket. Maybe they don't offer it anymore for the reasons you mentioned.

Or you could even use a plastic rivet or push clip. |

I was able to find the extinguisher on eBay, by searching PN. I tried a few sellers that got rejected shipping because of restrictions shipping the actual extinguisher, but was successful with a German seller. Just ask them first if they can ship.
I mounted it on the driver side using the RHD holes and it fit like a charm. I like the idea of keeping it close by. It's a cool subtle mod! I will post pics soon, although it looks just like above. Note that starting the first screw is a pain, but once you get the first the rest are easy. Since they aren't threaded you do need to apply some force up. Previous gens did require tapping the holes, but that step seems to be removed, and it felt pretty solid and sturdy. Tim |

Screws/bolts supplied in kit are self-tapping and sized correctly for the holes in seat

I actually don't remember them to be self-tapping; I think they were just standard M10 flanged bolts. The metal on on the seat bottom is thin enough they just threaded in.

i was looking to do the same for my BMW but i have a 2016 X5M (F85). i'm having a hard time finding the mounting brackets as well as the mini fire extinguisher state-side. Most vendors do not ship to the USA.
This is the part i'm looking for:

Yes, this mainly has to do with the classification paperwork needed to properly ship a fire extinguisher. I would suggest reaching out to a company like IND Distribution (LINK) to ask if it's something they can order. (Just a fair warning it will be expensive.)

@stilljester I purchased the fire extinguisher from my local UK BMW garage but it didn't have the bracket in - when queried the bracket isn't available for the M4 seats - don't think this is true though!
Do you know how can I obtain the bracket ?
