F83 seat emblem

This is about the silver cracked M3/M4 seat emblems. I've seen a lot of stories here about BMW replacing them with the newer black ones, but a totally different story for the F83. Has anyone with a convertible tried to get this replaced under warranty?

Stevens Creek BMW in San Jose was totally unknowledgeable about the issue, but after huddling, they said that for convertibles, the emblem can't be replaced without replacing the entire headrest, and that it wasn't available in black. A quick walk through their inventory and I found a 2018 F83 with the same seats and a black emblem. So they scratched their heads and said they'd let me know. Just seeing if any other F83 owner has attempted this.

Judging from REALOEM, the Dealership appears correct....emblems only come attached with headrests and are whatever color BMW ships.

Thank you. So if they order replacements they would likely be black? That's the part they didn't know.

So my emblems make a high pitched noise, my driver seat one is extremely high pitched, while my passenger seat emblem is a lower pitch.

I took it into South Bay BMW, the techinician put his ear next to them and within 2 seconds he said "yeah, lets go ahead and help you order two new ones"

Not exactly what you're asking, but a little related. Be quite funny if yours made the high pitched noise as well.

I went in last friday, Im waiting for the two emblems to arrive at the dealership, then theyll call me and tell me to come in.

And to sadly answer your second question: my 2018 exec pack. does not have leather seats.

Thanks

I figured your replacements would give clue to OP what color emblems would come on replacements.

I have mine replaced twice already in 3 plus years. Going in again for a 3rd time. Wondering if the black ones are replacing the original silver ones since after Aug 2018 I am out of warranty.

Also are the black ones prone to the same issues as the silver?

The dealership is telling me the black ones don't fit the models that have the silver ones, even though the seat looks the same.

Mine were replaced under warranty for cracking g. The old ones, and the new ones, all make the same noise. They replaced like for like tho, so I still have the white ones.

Cheers

Well they replaced them for free with the same kind, and apparently they crack in storage as well as on the car. So while they're willing to throw money at the problem, they're not interested in fixing it, and are just hoping you'll get tired of throwing time at the problem.

Hey guys,

I can second this ^. My car’s silver emblem cracked and I asked my SA for black emblems, and to call if he was not able to. He replaced without my knowledge and now I am stuck with the silver badges. My warranty expires in a few weeks and these are bound to crack soon, though after that. I’ve been fighting with BmW NA and they will not replace even though there is evidence that this part is faulty.

I am going to file a suit against BMW for not replacing the faulty part. Would anyone be interested in joining? Assuming you had similar experience

Hey,

I recently purchased a MY16 M4 F83. The driver's seat looks like the OP, but the passenger's seat is actually peeling. The car still has the basic warrenty (4yrs/50k).

Would my local dealer cover them under warrenty?

Thanks.

My SA said he couldn't replace with the black ones either. Said they had to send the broken parts back to BMW. I don't believe it. I had mine replaced twice under warranty and never was able to get the black ones that are less prone to the cracking. Oh well.

Sorry bro I have a 2019 mine are black and light up. Let me know how it goes for yours. Cool to meet another F83 owner though... did you do a spoiler? I'm debating which one to get right now.

Hey - F83 owner here with same issue at present. Car still under warranty.

Dealer says have to replace entire headrest (to which I'm like great go ahead and do it but they won't).

PN for black leather (M4) with the old silver logo is 52108058448
PN for black leather (M4) with the new black logo is 52108090016

Posting here for "posterity"
Same part applies for driver and pass side btw.

Just fyi. I've not yet been successful in having them replaced. Which is annoying. Part is $350 each .

I don't understand why -- if you have a coupe and yours look like shit, they're warrantied, but if you have a convertible and yours look like shit, they say no.

In grand scheme its minor but -- it does look a bit busted up when the silver emblems are cracked.

FYI had mine replaced today! Pretty cool, but with the silver ones again. But they look new so I'm happy.

But they didn't replace the headrests. The service order reads "remove headrest, remove leather from headrest, remove seat back leather & unplug lamp, replace lamp - tested"

So it looks like they replaced with new lights and they are serviceable on the verts, without replacign the whole silly headrest.

Any chance you have the part numbers for the black F83 m4 seat emblems without the headrest attached?

Hi, i read your OP and i actually have bought new Black emblems from my local BMW who shipped them from Germany. I was wondering could you tell me how you actually managed to take your headrest off the actualy seat. I am finding it trouble doing that. If i can i might be able to change the old silver emblems i have to the new black ones i have bought. I will post my update here. Thanks
