NEED NEW DCT TRANSMISSION (2nd one) Help for a friend not online

Ok guy doing this quick off my phone so sorry if I'm rambling just trying to sort this out for a friend because I helped him mod and tune this car since the start I'll try and make this short and sweet and any help will greatly be appreciated.

About a year ago we tuned his 2016 dct m4 on BM3 did the stage 1 because the car was bone stock. He put 27k on the car and the car ran flawlessly. About a month ago he called and said come drive my car it's making a weird grinding noise going into reverse and from 2nd to 3rd. I checked it out and something was definitely off I asked a few techs I knew and friends with f8xs we determined it wasn't something we wanted to mess with so let's flash it back to stock for him and take it to the dealer. He takes it to the local dealer (who around here most of us don't have much faith in) they immediately said it's definitely a blown transmission we're sorry it's completely covered you will owe nothing we'll call you when it's done. The total bill hat warranty covered was 17,900 dollars. During this time he decided he wanted more power especially since the dealer was being so easy with this process. He orders down pipes mid pipe and intakes. He gets the car back and installs these new mods and goes for the stage 2 agg BM3 tune.

Everything seems great and even tho the dealer told him there was no break in period for the new transmission he babied the car for the next 300 miles until he was about an hour away from and a drive train malfunction pops up and he loses every single gear in the car. Gets the car towed home next day starts it up and there is no error messages but the car will not go into reverse or gear no weird noises just nothing happening at all with again no error messages. We flash it back to stock once again return he returns it to the dealer after 300 miles and they now said something is definitely wrong we are having a specialist from bmwna come out to check out the car. The "special guy" gets there today finally and after hooking it up to the computer he said it had a "million hidden error messages and in his experience it was due to the car being tuned and most likely by bootmood lol"

They claim the "tuner" destroyed the transmission already and it needs another one and for obvious reasons it will NOT be covered leaving him an enormous bill.

Now I get you gotta pay to play and so does he but I do not thing bootmod3 destroyed a transmission in 300 light driving miles and it had to be something else.

Any suggestions that you guys have for him to try would be great as far as mechanical or even suggestions on if he should just take it to another dealer or is that car now flagged as warranty voided.

Thanks guys hopefully someone can figure this out for him.

It's unlikely that the tune had anything to do with the premature transmission failure. However, because the DME was flashed with aftermarket tuning calibrations, and possibly an unofficial TCU calibration, then BMWNA reserves the right to deny a warranty claim, or state whatever they please as the cause of failure.

Maybe try to replace oem clutch to aftermarket SSP or Dodson? The cost will be a lot less than a new transmission. Not sure if it will fix the problem

Clutches are a good idea. I will have them bring that up to the dealer and see if they can check that even if they won't cover it under warranty

You're in PA so why not check with VAC or RPI who is local and know these chassis well?

Btw, did you friend flash to the GTS tranny software? Try to see if that will help if for some reason this isn't mechanical issue.

He will try one of them next this all just happened yesterday.

And yes tried it every way. Stage 2 plus gts flash. Stage 2 no gts flash. All stock no gts flash and just gts flash and still nothing.

A. What everybody else is suggesting.

B. Get a used DCT from a wrecked M3/4, probably thousands cheaper.

C. Sell/trade the car for a very large loss, but maybe cheaper than the 18k.

D. Pay for a new one. I'd try a new dealer though as you even said the ones are around there you guys don't have much confidence in.

E. Get a lawyer and fight BMW, good luck.

There really is/are not that many options in a situation like this.

Spoke with Pro Tuning Freaks and they have 23,000 cars on the road with their tune since 2015 and have never experienced an issue like this
