Seatback lights in M4 Convertible -

2016 F83 M4 convertible with the unfortunately crappy original cracked silver seat lights. Looking to replace and even though I'm under warranty, had a stupid conversation with my dealer about it. Not a denial but more "well do the lights still light up and work?" ... (yes, they do, they just look like crap). So I'm curious about the following. Just to level set for the coupe crowd, this is what it looks like in Convertibles, they're up in the headrest, not the seatback.

Two questions:

1) Took off headrest, I find no plug for the light in sight as the wire runs through one of the headrest tubes down into the guts of the seat. Clearly it's either up in headrest or down inside of seat. Guessing down inside. Anyone know where the plug is and what minimal amount of the seat to take apart on a convertible to get to it?

2) Are the lights the same PN's as the M4 coupe lights, ie 52-10-8-089-598?
Can't seem to find a separate PN on any parts diagram in the convertible. Neither could BMW dealer (YES SERIOUS)

Thanks

There should be a wire on one of the tubes on those headrests. Maybe you disconnected it when you removed it.

Interested in this. Dealers will qucikly say you need an entire new "x", when in fact you can idnetify the exact piece from getbmwparts or oemparts amd gpfix for a fraction.

I did this with one of my mirrors. They tried telling me I needed entire assembly for $800 amd bought new bezel for $70.

@NashvegasR, they should replace under warranty simply because it’s cracked. Ask for the new black ones as replacements, since you’ll avoid that problem in the future

Yep so the deal here is BMW sells the entire headrest. For like $350-400 bucks.

I find this so stupidly hard to believe.... the emblem looks exact same as the coupes .... but at the same time I don't want to rip apart my headrest, buy a $130 black one to then try to install it in my existing headrest.

Grr. At least it would make a fun little youtube video.

Still under warranty but I doubt they'll replace $800 of headrest to give me the black ones, will they ?
