LHM [43] > M2 - Werte = FA 64 00 FA FA FA 00 LHM [44] > M1 - Werte = FA FA 00 FA FA FA 00 LHM [44] > M2 - Werte = FA FA 00 FA FA FA 00 (the default setting has the 4th byte set to 00 rather than to FA). Tried this again over the weekend and noticed that the Werte values were not the same. The 4th byte was default 00 but the other values (bytes) were different from what is above. Do I need to change them all to read what is above or should I just change the 4th byte to FA. Still having problems getting my fogs to come on. |

Following up, anyone have the EU switch installed yet? Haven't seen one come through the doors yet while coding.

I have one installed and working perfectly. I got one with both the front and rear fogs on it out of Latvia. Plug and play.

Would love to see an interior shot with the new switch installed.

The problem with only cannibalizing the buttons is that the rear fog button does not light up. To get both to light up, you need to switch the entire unit. Which I might eventually do when the weather gets a little warmer .

When changing only the buttons, only the front fog has the "normal" amber backlighting. When you activate the front fogs, there is no change in the button lighting, so there is no indication that the fogs are on. The rear fog button has no backlighting at all, on or off; although you do get the light in the instrument cluster when the rear fogs are on.

"Adverse Weather mode" cutoff speed/switch bypass?
Hey guys, I just got the European Headlight Switch from ECS Tuning and did the coding for my LED front fogs and they work great with the new switch. There is only one issue. After about 30 seconds of reaching highway speeds (~>65mph) the front fogs turn off. Once I get back on to the streets they automatically turn back on. Seems like "Adverse Weather mode" is being disabled after a certain maximum speed. So two questions.
(1) Does anyone know where to find the coding parameter that increases the "Adverse Weather mode" cutoff speed? (2) Is it possible to just bypass the fog light switch/"Adverse Weather mode" altogether and just set the corning lights to maximum brightness for city and highway modes all the time? I know M1 and M2 are the "Adverse Weather" mode settings and the 4th byte position of the M's control the brightness of the corning lights. Setting the corning lights to "FA" tell them to go to maximum brightness. So my guess would be setting the 4th byte position to "FA" for some of the other M's would set the corning lights to maximum brightness for other modes? Does anyone know what the M's are for the different modes? A bonus would be that you wouldn’t have to keep pressing the fog light button to turn them on each time, they would just be on with the headlights. Plus no one would even need to buy the fog switch to have fogs since it would just be coded on in the default modes. Plus VLD/NGHB might still work since you’re not sticking the lights into "Adverse Weather" mode. Last edited by m3-la; 03-25-2016 at 01:20 PM.. |

I guess that's a simple way of putting it. Coding the default to have fogs lights on. So why would anyone do such a crazy thing? Maybe because the light spread in front of the car is badaxx when the fog lights and headlights are on. So then does anyone know how to "just coding the default light settings" so that the fog lights are on?

Foglight on by default
Ok I figured out how to keep the fogs on by default. This means no requirement for a fog light switch plus they work with VLD/NGHB. I tried to minimize the number of Mx changes but I kept running into a mode of NGHB that turned off the fogs so I just set them all on and everything has been working fine.
Let me just say NGHB + fogs = insane amount of light output. Basically just go through M1 to M15 and change the 4th position to FA. Leave the rest alone. LHM [43] M1 to M15 : werte value = -- -- -- FA -- -- -- LHM [44] M1 to M15 : werte value = -- -- -- FA -- -- -- -- = leave value alone. |

I do not want to be alarmist but I would like to point out that the cornering lamps integrated into the Adaptive LED headlights incorporate a heat sink to dissipate the heat the cornering LED produces but it does not include a fan to manage the heat, like the main/DRL beam lamps.
If you plan on using the corner lamps for extended periods of time i.e. default on, I would suggest you periodically examine the housing to make sure the heat produced by the cornering lamps does not discolor the lens or damage the housing. Remember these are cornering lamps so they normally do not stay on for very long. I am comfortable using the corners as fogs since I only turn on the fogs in adverse weather conditions and on major roadways (i.e. not in stop and go traffic) where the airflow is likely sufficient for the cornering lamp heat sink to do their job at dissipating heat. This ebay link includes pics of the cornering lamp. Note the heat sink (with no cooling fan) - http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-4-Series...-/121435043930 Larry

The neat thing is when you pass people on the freeway in a dark area at night you can see their reaction like WTF that car just lit up the whole freeway. FYI- If I could figure out how to keep my fogs on at freeway speeds I might not need fogs-on-by-default but I can't. They keep turning off after about >65mph with the adverse weather mode.
