Wow they look nice!

Are the 2018 Standard Adaptive LED's similar to the Standard Adaptive LED for 2016-2017 cars?

No they're not the same and are different. If you go to page 2 where someone retrofitted them, the headlamps are completely different.

I am referring to the Adaptive LEDs, not the Adaptive ICON LEDs (two options for 2018's, one requires the Exec package). Are you sure the standard Adaptive LED on the 18's are different from the Adaptive LED's on the 17?

The standard LED are Bi-LED not full adaptive. The standard LED are round in shape like xenons with the same circular halo's. The new ICon adaptive LED's are the full adaptives with the new design running lights that you see in this thread.

Previous model years had either Xenon or adaptive LED. The shape is different as the previous adaptive LED's are more like the new ICons, horizontal in shape instead of circular, and the light output is quite a bit better.

So to answer your question yes, the standard Bi-LED's are different than the full LED adaptives that were available previous to 2017 that you also had to spec the Exec package for. The New Icons are basically an upgrade to the previous adaptive LED's headlights....not the same as the standard lights that were either Xenon or this new Bi-LED that is being offered.

Ah! thanks, so has anybody upgraded the 2018 Standard LED lights to the Exec package Icons? Seems like the upgrades on this thread are for 2016-2017 cars? Did I miss something?

Basically it's the same process as previous model years since you are basically swapping full headlights plus all the modules and coding required.

It's way easier and cheaper to just spec Exec and I would imagine most people who bought a 2018 and wanted those lights probably just spec'ed Exec.

The reason why you see so many doing it from 2016-17 are because the new Icons were not available to them at that time.

They are nice but it won't be cheap. You can expect to spend close to $5k for the swap.

Everything works as intended, Anti-Dazzle high beams works just as well as before.
The beam cut-off on the new ICON LEDs seem to be sharper than before.
Gives the front end a new aggressive look.

Cons:
You lose the corner turn lights, I really do miss that feature especially turning into dark streets or driveways.
These suckers are expensive! You might be able to sell your 15-17 LED's to recoup some of the cost.
I threw my back out removing the bumper, I think this will be my last DIY since I'm getting too old. If I had to do it again I would probably just pay someone.

When you say you lose the corner turn lights, what do you mean? On the headlights themselves or the ones in the mirror?

You can find headlights on the used market but they are limited avail. I decided that the savings wasn't worth the potential headache for something at this price point. I came across a used set that I can refer to you if interested.
I am interested in a set can you point me in the right direction?

I did it as well. Big thanks to Marius. Very professional. Was it worth it? It's very subjective. The LCI adaptives are less aggressive than the std LED but more modern. There are more components in the adaptive headlamps that make the front of the car look more substantial than the std LED which is a plus.

I do feel that darker colored cars do look much better with LCI adaptives than lighter or white cars. A much bigger impact.

Sounds crazy but I prefer the old adaptives to both LCI LED and LCI adaptives on white cars. Pics are after, before, after before. Last is my old non comp M4

There should be no corner lights in the mirror, you have turn signals in the mirrors but the actual corner lights are in the headlights themselves.

For some reason in 2018+ BMW decided to remove them from the headlights completely.

Not at all a personal attack, but looks "much cheaper" as well.

I'm looking to upgrade my MY2019 base LED headlights to Adaptive LED but am unsure of if it's going to be a plug & play + coding. I don't have HBA either, but i'm not really too fussed about that, if anyone has any info or advice for the upgrade procedure it would be greatly appreciated.

Check wiring diagrams if they are the same for non-adaptive and adaptive lights -> newtis.info
If they are the same, you just need simple coding. Code with changed FA(add 552, then code FEM_BODY and FLE(43,44)), also you can add HBA to your FA(5AC)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you lose the anti-dazzle option on the ICON lights? Love how my car creates the tunnel for the cars ahead of me and adjusts for those oncoming. This is the only sticking point for me.

On eBay.de you can find now a complete set of LCI headlights plus modules for 2500 euro.

It just retrofitted the LCI LED adaptive Headlights without removing the front bumper completely.
No cutting or splicing of the factory harness. The fitment between the harness and new headlights are very tight so I cut (2) zip-tie type fasteners (1 on each side) to give some slack to the factory harness. Once adjusted you can resecure using the same mounting point.
Plug 'n play and Alex did the coding.
