Surface Preparation before side skirt install
Hello All,
I am looking to install my side skirts...just did the status gruppe diffuser extensions. And on both the underside looks like its been blasted with rocks...which is obvs has. So I wonder before putting the skirts on I want the tape which Ill use to assure a perfect fitment will stick and stay on. So how does one prep the surface. 1. Is 3m adhesive remover good enough to get the bottom skirt clean enough before install. Ill likely be using adhesive promoter as well. It still looks blasted and rough; but Idk if anything will change that. Ive seen others use rubbing alcohol. Clay bar? lol 2. is there special 3m double sided tape I should be using? |

I'd clean first with car wash cleaner to get the big chunks of dirt off and then rubbing alcohol and then 3m promoter and you can use automotive 3m vhb tape. Definitely need self tapping screws too.

highly recommend to not use tape. I have installed sides on 5 differnet f8x. the tape is 100% unnecessary and will be a pain in the ass to get off later. Just screws.
Promoter should ONLY be used on trunk spoilers. It is rediculous overkill for sides. You will literally not ever get them off without breaking them and the residue left with the promoter will take you hours to clean off. |

The side skirt ain't going anywhere with screws in. It's plenty on its own.

For now I just gave up and removed the whole side. I really prefer the look of skirts but am too OCD to constantly be worried that the thing is going to fly off on the highway and mash up my rear tires. For reference install was with tapping screws and 2-sided tape.
