Funny, you replied within 4 hours of my post and I never replied.. my b. Yea, that’s the socket i’m using. I bought black phone cord, and used trim tools to gently push the cord under the rubber gasket that runs around most of the edges of the dash and windshield. The last 2 feet to the plug is very shoddily installed by me, so i ended up buying some sticky-back wire guides which I’ll use to hide the wires better in the coming warm months.

Sadly, the actual lighter adapter for the V1 does stick down a bit into the footwell, as the socket is shallow or the adapter is long? One of those.. It seems like it’s basically 1/2 to 3/4” longer than it needs to be. My V1 is ~15 years old now, so they may have updated it since (still works great - pretty crazy for electronics imo).

Valetine 3rd Iteration Gen2

Yes my firstValentine went for years without needing and upgrade. The second went less than two years i think before upgrade to Gen 2. The trade in was far less of a deal than this first go around. But I dd it.
I had mt entire setuo professionally installed.
Sits between rearview and top of windsheild.

R7 works very well. Very quiet.

If you want the latest and greatest, the R8 comes out next month.

I'm a little late to the party, but I'll throw my hat into the ring. I'm currently running a Valentine One Gen. 2, paired up over bluetooth with the JBV1 app. JBV1 adds many unique features that enhance the functionality of the V1 Gen. 2, such as automatic lockouts with frequency drift compensation due to temperature fluctuation, integration to retrieve and display speed traps from the biggest crowd source network, directly inside of JBV1, and the ability to track and report on aircraft overhead that are doing distance-timed speed enforcement (Aerial VASCAR). It has tons of features, and I'm constantly learning something new about it, even after having run it for the past 3 years.

What's awesome about JBV1, is that it even has a standalone mode. That is to say that you can use it without having to own a V1 detector. You can get the CSAs (crowd sourced alerts) of live speed traps, the aircraft monitoring alerts, and historical heat maps of enforcement sightings (generated from CSAs) for the past year along the road you're traveling.

For what it's worth, I help volunteer as staff on Radar Detector Forum. Needless to say any of us over there would be glad to answer any questions about RADAR detectors, laser protection, and other counter measures.

Has Valentine figured out how to get the mute button closer to the driver so you don’t have to reach the unit in the front window to mute alerts?

I would be happy with a remote control, or a button on the power cord.

They make a remote display that has the mute button builtin (*1). You can place it closer to you. I use a modified version of it in two of my vehicles. The modified one is extra thin, and not as deep (*2).

You can also buy just a mute button wiring kit, made by a long time hobbyist out of Florida, doing business as Safe-N-Sound1. His website isn’t much impressive, but his custom made cabling kits are good quality, and he entertains requests for any custom changes you may need (*3).

Waze is my radar detector…tbh works better than an actual unit. But I live in the north east and people LOVE cop spotting and reporting to Waze here so that may not be the case elsewhere.

The only unit I would ever install on my car would be a fully built in escort passport 9500ci or maybe this: https://radartest.com/Shopping/VP-AS...pexd.asp?id=90

Cops have access to waze as well and can press "Don't see" on the same alert. I'm sure you already know this but a quick reminder for anyone who doesn't. Honestly though spotting a parked vehicle (hidden or visible) is the least of your problem in California, for example… the white CHP Chargers that clock speed through pacing rather than radar is what's likely to nab you here. Waze can't help with that at all - neither can any radar/laser device.

Yes, but there's usually multiple reports of the same cop, and if the cop removes his mark from the "not there" option, he would then have to leave the position and circle back to remove any additional marks left by others…(also, don't speed! &#128514
